Microwave Ovens

Our GE broke after 8 years of service - looking for a replacement. Anyone have an opinion that they would care to share?

The General isn't what it used to be. But what do you expect from a company that allows products to be sold using it's name that it doesn't manufacture? I mean we worked for them right?

Oh wait, I think what you really wanted was a recomendation! Nope, none.

Consumer Reports?

Ya can't go wrong with an Amana Radarange. Built to last and made in the USA!
Plus none of those stupid buttons to push, and you never need to re-program the clock.

As I've said before - if it has just stopped heating food- replace the magnetron. They run $50-$100 or so on the bay all day long - my friend - the appliance parts guy got me mine for $35.

Even cooks turkeys to a golden brown.

Maybe you can win one:

We don't need a stinking clock on a microwave oven, just one more thing to go wrong. Plus we have one of these on the counter right next to it. It even gets AM!

I remember our first microwave in the 70's, they even included a free 2-3 hour long cooking class on how to "zap" your food.

I think the thing was the size of 3 full sized suiltcases, and you could easily fit 2 huge turkeys inside it (with the wired in heat probe too.)

Of course, save the Seattle spotted owl Florida manatee old growth California Redwood toxic ozone layer Exxon Valdez sea monkeys brine shrimp too.

Panasonic 1300w unit. It's reliable and heats up a cup of water in a minute.

I had a GE too. It lasted about 8 years.

Webb is right. Sharp, if it fits. They are the best. They make them for all the high end companies. Look at all the commercial ones. they are all Sharp.

It really doesn't matter what brand or how much you pay. 8-10 years is about the limit for any new appliance.

The darn things are all different sizes which means I need to purchase the metal flange to go around the opening. That little piece goes for a few hundred! They gettcha coming and going!

I think I'll just buy one that fits and case it in with molding and stain it (if momma approves of course...)

molding might restrict air flow so be careful. The flange should be 100-150 bucks, not a few hundred.

use a 5-axis mill to slot the wood molding (routers are too old skool)

or... use a #D printer to build up the molding with all sorts of weird cutouts in it

Look for a stainless steel interior, and a convection oven option.

The stainless is easier to clean, and will never rust - and the convection oven is great if you need to have 2 ovens going - but you don't have room for a double oven. That extra oven is handy for holidays and big get togethers.

I have a Maytag over the range that is pretty good.

I do have two ovens but thanks for the insight. My Son thinks we should just get a toaster oven and the heck with the microwave...
