WWII Relic Hunting In Europe.

Have you seen any of the WWII relic hunting videos on YouTube? Some are in Poland, Germany and Belgium. They find a lot of ammo , unexploded munitions and war relics; and you can find some listed on E bay. I think this could be a reality show on the History Channel. I would love to go on a 2 week relic hunting trip. How I found out about this, we were just in Poland and met a guy who said he does this for a living. I don't recall exactly where I saw the program on TV it but it was about how salvaging and selling relics from the Stalingrad area is a pretty profitable business. A very fertile ground for salvaging to say the least and German relics can bring a good price. That would definitely be a very interesting way to spend a vacation.

My wife's family has a place in central Germany, and there are Celtic mounds there, that really make me curious about doing some digging to see what would turn up in the area.
I don't know about WW2 relics, but am pretty sure that digging around those mounds would turn out to be Verboten. But tempting.

Cheers Richard

I would love to do this. The closest I've come was rooting around an abandoned Soviet air base in eastern Germany.

You can find old soldiers' mail on eBay all the time too. Very cool to read some of this stuff. A buddy of mine showed me this one and the contents, asked me to get it translated. It was from 11/43 and the poor guy was in eastern Poland en route to the front. He was telling his bride-to-be that he'd be ok and not to worry about him. He was probably dead before the letter got to her.

I wanted to do this in Belgium this past September, but it was the wrong season. Yes, you can get permission from a willing farmer and dig anytime of year, but apparently, you can find stuff next to the road when they dig up their fields to plant. Each year.
