2004 996TT with 198K miles -- original drivetrain -- $25K

Still think the wasserboxers are junk?

Daily driver with receipts, motor never opened, transmission (Tiptronic) never touched, original turbos

I think $25K is too much, but for a 911 Turbo to go 198K miles in eight years is impressive

Wow. Looks dirty but not half bad. Too bad about the tiptronic, that could make somebody a fun track toy.

Here's why I think $25K is too much
This is just one of several affordable 996TTs
2001 996TT 6spd with 72K miles
Well opted, Carbon GT2 wing
Kinesis wheels with new Michelin PS F1s
No paintwork or bodywork, (except aftermarket wing)

$32,500

We all love the TT and the GT3. They have the air-cooled case still. Is that a coincidence?

Those are some of the best cars ever made.

A 930 would have had 3-4 full rebuilds and a bunch of transmissions by that mileage, based on every "for sale" ad I've ever read.

Wow, I like it. Just curious/dreaming, is the price listed asking price or what you pay or sell it for?

It would probobly be much closer to two and one would hope that over a decade of of research and development would yield some gains.

The 996 TT is a compelling car for the money. I just wish they were a little more attractive. The only 996 I really like the looks of is the GT2 but those don't seem to be dropping in price.

They are what I would have to pay to buy them from the dealers that listed them wholesale.
You could add $800-1000 for the auction's fees and my Pelican fee if as-is, where-is.

The dealers may also take an offer lower than listed. Dean (BeyGon) and I did just that based on a PPI. Worked out well.

The tip was faster around a track, (don't remember which one), than the 6-speed with Hurley Haywood driving when the car was new. It's a beast.

That said, I'd need a 3-pedal version of this car.

Turbos with automatics (or hyper-fast shifting manumatics) are typically much faster than three-pedal manuals because the turbos can stay spooled.

The 996TT tips were faster 0-60 and 0-100 as well.

Almost every exotic is now paddle-shifted. Like it or not, working your own clutch and gears will soon be like setting your spark advance on your wood steering wheel, and squeezing your own horn

LOL

We all will go the way of the dinosaurs. You think our air cooled cars will be ignored by the general gear head public - like the model ts and the 30s / 40s cars are already by today's gearheads?

I agree that $25k is too much for that car. You can get a nice one with under 100k miles for $35k. Anything need rebuild on that car and you are out >10k in a heartbeat. But who knows, it may have another 50k left in it. Someone please buy and keep us in the loop.

True, but not nearly as much fun. I had an F1 gearbox in my Maserati and despised it, and the tiptronic in my Audi is basically a gimmick in my opinion. There's just something special about the connection and control that you get with a true manual. Besides, even if the tip is faster at shifting, I doubt you'd describe a 996TT with a manual gearbox as "slow".

It's not faster at shifting, it allows the turbos to stay on boost between shifts

I agree, I like driving sticks too. Even if they're technically slower.

Not for my daily driver though, stop and go traffic is too prevalent here.

I had been driving my trusty 4 cylinder 2000 Toyota Camry that I bought new for 10 years when I asked Eric to find me something completely different. I had always wanted a turbo 911, so I asked Eric to find me a 2001 or later one with higher miles in the $30,000 range. Since I live up north, my parameters for a super car daily driver are that it has to have 4 wheel drive, be able to sit my two boys in the back, at least in a pinch, and be able to go like stink but be comfortable as a daily driver.

Eric suggested to me that a 911 turbo was a little aggressive for my needs so he turned me onto something much calmer. With 4 doors. Seats five. A total family car. A sheep in sheep's clothing.

I ended up with a 2003 Audi RS6 that had started out life as a nicely unmolested executive vehicle with 440 or so HP before it received tasteful modifications bringing it up to a modest 520 HP and 500 or so pf of torque. The Quattro Drive and Blizzaks give me something that I can use year around and is as docile as a stock A6 around town but will do the low 4s if I really need it. It's no 911 TT but it's pretty decent for a grocery hauler.

Any additional thoughts on the RS6? I'm a big fan of those but haven't had much first hand experience with them. How is the driving experience? Is the engine bay super tight and difficult for maintenance and repairs?
