Guys,
Honestly, there is no excuse for such ignorance about GT2s! You think of yourselves as ....enthusiasts? There is so much free info out there to explain them but you are too LAZY to even read up on them before you shoot your mouths off. Shame on you. Read the specs. There are even free copies of the Info Technik online that explain them.

It probably won't be for another 15-20 years, but finally the writers in the auto mags will start writing about these in terms that the Porsche masses will understand. This is the last real driver's car built by Porsche. One reason for the lack of good information from the press is that few of the "testers" [have you any idea what the criteria for an "automotive journalist" is?] have enough skill to use much of the potential. People with plenty of enthusiasm, ability, and ...yes, money... have been willing to pay what it costs to have one of these because the "6-2" offers an exceptional, undiluted, driving experience. The only aid is ABS... you can add to that .. your right foot and well trained butt sensors... that is all that is between you and the nearest ditch when you start extending one of these monsters. Fantastic driving machine [and yea, I know a lot about fantastic driving machines,] Like the best of the older Porsches, half of the reward is getting it right. Unlike most of the best, get it wrong ...and you get it very very wrong. This is not a happy, playful, puppy dog machine. It is a seriously unforgiving performance piece.

In your initial post you stated that the VIN didn't decode as a GT2. I was wondering about that also.

Ah, I see

The VIN of a GT2 is the same (save for one check-digit) as a 996TT
So when a bank looks at a VIN in "the book" they'd see this as just another 996TT
Similarly, most computer programs that decode VINs won't see this as a GT2 either

Here's an example:

WP0AB29932S696145 02 GT2 (this thread's subject)

WP0AB29902S685572 02 996TT (random 996TT from eBay)

W 1st digit is the country (W = West Germany)
P 2nd digit is the manufacturer (P = Porsche)
0 3rd digit is car or truck (0 = Car, 1 = Cayenne)
A 4th digit is body (A = Coupe, B = Targa, C = Cabrio)
B 5th digit is induction (B = Turbo, A = Natural)
2 6th digit is emissions
99 7th/8th digit are model code when combined with twelfth (99+6 = 996)
3/0 9th digit is a mathematics check code (see bold in VINs above)
2 10th digit is the year (2 = 2002)
S 11th digit is the plant (S = Stuttgart)
6 12th digit is model (see 7th and 8th = 996)
96145 13th-17th digits are the serial numbers as it was produced (see bold in VINs above)

There is nothing different between a 996TT VIN and a 996 GT2 VIN

So a lot of people can't tell by the VIN what it is
When automated listings are compiled, it just shows up as a 996TT Coupe

That's what happened here....bank listed it as a mere 996TT Coupe
So if you're searching for a GT2, it doesn't show up

Just like the 914 LE's...unless you know the specific number range they fit in and have the COA, they are just another 914 according to the VIN.

I'm not debating anything. Once again you are so busy looking for an argument you can't fathom to realize anyone's point of view beside your own. No surprise.

I'm sure these are not drivers cars. Just watered down junk conceived by bean counters.

Don't be silly! I just read as far as I want, and then I skip right to the last page and comment regardless of the thread direction, like everyone else.
