There is still time for a generous person to buy this for the Pelican gift exchange.

Are you referring to me?

I am not a car snob. I just have a massive dislike for the 996 series. I think they are fugly. I would rather have a 964 than a 996 and I am not a big fine of the 964.

Well, Eric, don't let the bickering keep you from posting real world cars for sale such as this one. These are some of the most enjoyable threads on here on PPOT. We all get to dream a little and some of these little dreams are just close enough to becoming true one day where it is a lot of fun.

I have thought about this car a lot and if I had any play money, I'd have Eric place a bid for me. Who knows, this may be doable for under $50k - can you imagine! I don't like the 996 looks either, but I'd buy this over a Corvette any day. I remember a guy at the PCA having one of these GT2 at an AX when it was brand new. Poor schmuck was constantly on the phone and bent over paperwork and missing his runs. I guess he had to work for it ... we could have the same car here without working weekends! :D

Re: the naysayers... wow. I hope you enjoy your 45's and CRT TV's as well.

Re: the GT2... I just need to knock off a bank or two...

I (automotively) lust for that GT2. How is it that they're so cheap? They stickered for $182K when new. It's the ultimate 911 turbo (well, other than the RS version). That slightly Camry-ish 996 styling is invisible when you're in the driver's seat. Motor based off the GT1 block. Limited production numbers. No AWD. Wow. Just wow. I can't believe a car like that is almost within reach. Do I really go ahead and sell everything of financial value that I own....?

icemann427 12-19-2012 07:38 AM

Been thinking about selling the 930 and buying one for some time. 996 or not, I agree with Noah. They kick a$$!

If you would of taken the same money and purchased a Ford GT (not that it was that easy!), your car would be worth the same or more. You know, that old hindsight stuff.:D

Everybody that wanted to should kick in X of $$$ and have a lottery?:)!At least one person would be the happy owner for a fraction of the purchase cost.

So, where is this car selling?

I figured that much... which one was the question. I'll put it another way. I was thinking of mentioning this car to a friend that might be interested in buying it.

Yeah, but based on what I've heard of the Ford GT I think they are a fickle and expensive mistress. At least when it breaks down (again) you can just stand there and stare at it.

I'm already representing someone on this car, as posted/quoted

aigel 12-19-2012 09:50 AM

Great Eric, that someone can take a crack at it. Even if it remains confidential, you probably can tell us if your pal ended up with it and if it was a decent deal or not!

Please find a nice 993 TTS that's listed as a NA narrow body next, and I'll smash my piggy bank! :D

A bit off the topic, but provides some insight into the depreciating nature of these high priced cars.

Ford GT: America's investment-grade car - Jul. 2, 2012

Now if THAT car sunk to the realm of my price range, I would make an effort to get one. It's beautiful in comparison to any Viper, Corvette, and yes 996 turbo. The Carrera GT also is a stunning car, any of those come down the auction line?
