Simple computer question...

Is this dialog box showing me the speed of the connection between my computer and the wireless router or the the speed of the router to the internet?

Thanks.
So, this picture shows that the 'weak link' in the system is the actual speed of the IPS, not the router...

(picture is from a different computer on the same router)

Depends what your paying for.

It a bit surprising that your upload is greater than your download.

What numbers were you expecting?

You are getting 15/21. Not sure why you consider that weak, unless you are paying for the 30/30 or better package.

I need to check to see what we're now paying for.
Our discount package expired right about the time I got laid off. I didn't want to go thru the hassle of changing IP's so let it ride. Now, the wife is complaining that things are taking a lot longer. We got a new router as we were also having connection dropouts and that is what Verizon suggested. It doesn't seem to have helped.
I think we're on a 15/5 service now, but don't know for sure, like I said, I need to check. I was under the impression the router would be the weak link in all but a dial up case, but I guess not. On top of all this, the charges went up while the service has dropped. Nothing like getting less for more.
Thanks for all your help guys.

FWIW I have been having all sorts of weird issues with FIOS for about the last 6 months.

Hangs, timeouts. My mail accounts are driving me crazy, sometimes they decide to simply not find the outgoing mail server and refuse to send. I change nothing and 5 minutes later it works.

At first I thought it was just me but I've been hearing from co-workers and other business associates having similar issues and they are on different providers.

Almost like there is some really bad DNS juju going on and no one is owning up to the cause.

If you are paying for 15/5 and those are your results then you are getting more than you are paying for so....

Yeah, we have FIOS and it is taking a looooooooonnnnnngggg time to load a lot of things, even the Pelican board and it's close by, relatively speaking.

We've been having the mail problem too. I thought it was our connections to the router, but when I check, it always shows up as good to excellent. There are a lot more networks in the neighborhood as I can 'see' at least half a dozen at certain times of the day/nite.

Besides all this, my wife's machine is running Win7x64 and I'm on Vista 64 so I am not all that 'up' on her problems/OS. I think she thinks I should be all knowing since I'm the computer guy of the house as the kids are long gone now.

I'll look tomorrow to see what we are paying for and to see if we're still getting what the tests show.

Thanks again for the help.

Reboot the router and then try alternative dns on your workstation. I have the occasional dns issue with FIOS too.
