Every by complete chance run into someone with your exact same name?
Last week we were at the checkout at Trader Joes. The guy swipes my credit card, and is looking at his display. He says my name in a low tone a couple times, then looks up at me and says "Hey, my name is Richard Barnett, too!". Its a fairly uncommon name, so we were both kinda stunned. Well, he seemed completely stunned. Kind of a weird feeling! I don't know how many of us there are in the country, but I would guess not more than a hundred or so.
Anyone had something similar happen to them? |
Sure, but my name is not uncommon. There's even the famous singer/guitarist. There was a guy a couple grades under me in HS that has the same name. We reconnected on FB. I have fun with his posts from time to time and have confused his friends. I still plan on borrowing his FB profile pic one day and really have some fun.
|
Not often for me because i have a slightly unusual ethnic-based name. My name in real life is Barack Obama. I haven't run into another one yet. I can imagine what a surprise it would be to find someone else with your name. I'll have to post if it does happen to me.

Kairos Trekkor Wills?!?
Yeah, me too! :D Happens all the time. KT |
Another Doc in town (different speciality) shares my name, just a different middle initial.
Unfortunately, my middle initial precedes his alphabetically, so when in doubt addressing professional correspondence people seem to default to me. I get alot of his mail. |
There is another Soldier in the Army with my first/last name....and we're in the same command.
|
I used to think I had a pretty uncommon last name and the odds of a first name matching up pretty slim. The last name isn't uncommon in this area however as my ancestors have been here several hundred years. For a long time I knew there were at least a couple of me(s). With the internet however, I've discovered there are a WHOLE bunch of me :) Never met one though...
|
I don't know what my biological first name would have been, but the last name is very unique. There is only one family in the US with it. I suppose I could have shared a name with a family member.
|
I google my name and when I find other people with the same name! I just add their job to my resume.
|
According to facebook there are at least 8 of me. It made me wish I had used my full name instead.

No, and I never will, no matter how many people I meet.
I am the only me in the entire world. All alone. :( |

That would require finding a sane, worthy enough woman. Apparently, not in my cards :( |
My name, no chance, but I had a customer with a strange experience. I posted about it a while ago.

What, DIKCHEAD?
Yeah, happens all the time ;) |
Ordered a pizza one time and the young lady behind the counter asked my name and
When I told her she said that can't be your name I married him and you don't look Like him. |
it's when they share a SSN# and FICO score you should be worried.
|
Nope. I don't think there's anyone on the planet who had my name other than me. My dad's name was the same except for our middle names, but now that he's gone, I'm it.
|
No, but at my former employer there was a guy with my name in reverse. Used to get his emails all the time.
Really thru me when I got one of his from HR explaining what was going to happen since he'd been laid off. I really let the HR person know that 'Attention to detail' should be part of her job as it caused all kinds of angst when it came to me. 'Course it didn't matter 'cause 6 months later I ended up being laid off too. Go figure. |

A few years ago, I started getting phone calls for someone with my same name. I would carry on conversation for a minute or so, trying to figure out who I was talking to, before figuring out it as a wrong number. I got to know quite a bit about the guy with my name by the questions the caller would ask to verify that they had the wrong guy. I found out he was new in town, where he worked, where he had previously lived, etc.
One caller refused to believe I wasn't his friend. The wife answered the phone, he asked for me and the conversation went something like: Him: Who's the chick? Me: That's my wife. Him: (laughing) Oh really, when did that happen? Me: Who is this? Him: (laughing harder) You ass hole, you know who this is. Who's the chick. Me: You have the wrong number. Him: (still laughing) Yeah, right, wrong number. I'll call back later when you can talk. |
I have such an ungodly common name it's not even funny.
Hell my boss and I share the same last name. Whenever we are out at a function and meet clients we always have to say no I am not a son, brother, cousin, illegitimate love child... |
John Jacob JingleHiemer-Schmidt...
( his name is my name, too ) KT |
25 years ago, the treasurer of the jewelry store where I bought my Submariner had the same name. They held up my purchase for a few minutes.
|
My last name is not common. In fact, most of us date back to a single family which emigrated around 1700 to Pennsylvania/Maryland.
In college, there was another student with the same name, same middle initial, but different middle name. And that BASTARD bounced a bunch of checks! |
I haven't met anyone, but two guys with my name randomly sent me invites on LinkedIn last year. Both from the UK.
Also, I was a bit surprised to find an Italian horror movie named after me! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p6-xwkka1d...er-350x524.jpg Hahaha!:D |
A guy in our local PCA chapter who routinely kicks my ass at autocross has my same name. Same spelling, which is unusual. I bought a bass from him. Funny how life beats the odds regularly.
|
Guy at the same company I worked at had the same first/last name. He'd get checks meant for me and cash them. What a tool. Who cashes checks not knowing what they are for.
|
I got a Facebook friend request from another Lee Hines in Australia. He just wanted to say hi.
|
Ive never had the occasion to meet someone with the same name but several years ago friends were having a party and one of the guys had just bought a new bike. He and another buddy went for a ride and got pulled over by the police. Second buddy didn't have his wallet on him and when asked his name the police arrested him as being wanted for bank robbery. Bike buddy comes back to the party alone and then had to take second buddys wallet (his GF had it in her purse) down to the police station to prove he wasn't the wanted person. Same first, middle and last name, different DOB.

Not me...but I went to school with a George Bush who later moved to Texas. He had a lot of fun making dinner reservations.

My name is pretty uncommon in the USA, in South Africa not so much. I have met someone in Greensboro named David Lucas.
|
Back when there was this thing called a white pages, I counted my name in the Portland phone book. There were 27 of me listed. Not counting the folks who just put down their first initial.
On a related note, I just had a client owned by Bill Smith try to hire another fellow named Bill Smith. Larry |
I need to go to Oz to meet Jim Richards. I hear he can drive Porsches kinda fast.
|
I have never met someone with my name but on two occasions I met someone with my brother's name.
My wife has to go to meetings for her job on a regular basis. If all the top folks are there they have 3 men named Mark and three named Todd. All have different last names, but it makes it a pain to use names in conversation. |
Not really as I am the only one in the country with my full name.
|
Doubtful.
All the people with my last name are decendants of my grandfather. The communists murdered the rest with that surname. |
