funny thing is, seems like all the folks who oppose fracing are also those who do not get a check...I guess if the check is big enough the problems become smaller in relation. Call it the inverse law of capital interest, you loose interest the greater the capital!

have you looked at any EIS's?

things that need to be addressed include:

alternatives - coal on the one hand; conservation, wind, PV on the other hand

effects of gas leaks

chemical recycling, disposal, etc.

and... the geographical reach of effects - e.g. NG gas leaks affect the entire planet, whereas a chemical leak or noise effect is totally a NIMBY issue

Randy, yup - the subsequent volumes explore all sorts of sources beyond the coal and crude offerings.

And yes, the emission issues are important in all aspects of industry. In Fracing they are particularly interesting. You would be happily surprised at the air quality initiatives and requirements that a well site has.

happy, sure; surprised, no

but don't forget the sealing off of leaks has to go all the way down every pipeline & to the plant that is burning the methane

BTW - did you see the Sasol news?

I did se that - I know a few there. Chevron had similar technology but thwarted it. I think it time has come.

So Lube, when is the Coal-to-Liquids volume coming out? I would be most interested in that. Seems that the US is the Saudi Arabia of coal and we could really benefit from that feedstock to be used with Fischer Tropsch technology to make "greener" fuels.

Hmmm hadn't planned on that. Coal and crude have there place but the publisher wanted a different angle, more on emerging intititives but I do think you are right. Coal to gas is potentially very exciting energy source.

Add another to that one. This is a hot subject for us. They are everywhere around my home, and my shop. Supposedly , one of the big wellheads will be a few miles behind my house. I , and all my neighbors have well water.
We are not necessarily anti Fracking, or against natural gas exploitation , but we did turn down the first offer from the gas companies. Me. and 3 of our other neighbors are holding out.
The one neighbor has a ****load of property, and they turned down a 1.5 million sign on bonus, stating that " we are farmers" . We only have 3 acres, so this is not going to financially make or break us, but I have noticed a lot of the old farmers in the area, have new trucks, new equipment, and garages going up , and homes being remodeled. It is rather interesting.

Coal to gas has been an exciting technology with vast untapped potential for a hundred years. It will still be an exciting technology with vast untapped potential a hundred years from now.

solor ain't free...takes energy to make solor panels - from mining the earths to fabrication but if you combine various technologies combined with reductions then we may have a chance.

From Fracturing.....fracing

I do consulting work for a fracing company and with all the regulations and environmentalists all over it, it's very scrutinized. But every time there is an earthquake or contaminated ground water, it's the fracing that's to blame

Gotta blame someone! Bush has been out of office too long to blame him.
