warm, nor toasty

so needed to check with the brain trust here with a business practice issue. short back ground-- the local quizno's was opened some 6 years ago with much fan fare & plenty of balloons.. this very well run (clean) store that was obviously corporately run. well, about 3 or so years ago an owner was fitted for the store, mortgaged to the hilt for sure. some of the changes i noticed was the oven was never hot enough to give that toasty feeling they suggest if their difference... not a big deal if the place is empty as you can suggest they run it through a second time, & ive done so. i do not however ask for it to be done when there is any sort of line to be served. who wants to be that guy?? thing is when it's busy the oven is cooking no hotter like it having not been warmed up. flatly, the new owner is cheapin out by runnin her on low for power consumption.

i'd also noticed that he no longer provided napkins in the self serve soda/condiment area. he pulled the napkin holder out of the cabinet, flipped it around so it was apparently a blank spot in the "bar", not an empty napkin holder. this meant if you wanted more than a single napkin you had to ask for more & he would reluctantly offer up 1-2 additional... not deal breakers to be sure, but things that aggravated me a bit. only enough to break balls by asking him to turn the oven up in a good hearted way, although i suspect the language barrier prevented him from getting the joke or the point.. i would also pull the backwards placed, empty napkin dispenser out and flip it around before i asked for more napkins than i needed... touche'

okay, getting to the point. today i walk in and there is a bit of a line to order, but not to pay. i see my local small business owner eating his lunch right behind the cash register area. apparently his culture does not hold chewing with your mouth closed in high regard. as he stands right at the register slamming his sammy, pita, or #5, that i suspect was run thru the over twice i really start taking note. he at this point takes one of those golden single napkins and wipes down his grill as he readies to help the next customer.. i'm expecting him to turn and wash his hands before he completes the transaction, but not so fast,,, he instead rings dude up and bags customer's lunch with a mouth full of his and his waded up, half used napkin in hand!!! i was flabbergasted!!

at that point i was skipping lunch there while regretting i was not quick thinking enough to use my cell phone to video the whole thing. what i did do was cancel my sandwich with minimum wage sandwich maker guy and made my way to the register area. i called owner dude aside, and quietly, so other customers did not hear told him what id just seen, had video and was sending it to the corporate offices. he nearly shat himself as i walked out with him adamantly suggesting lunch was on him this time. i will not eat there again as long as he owns the place. i am sure he's the owner as a 60 yo man does not work at a place like that, sans uniform, & is present every open hour.

so, with karma consideration?? should i jus let it go? find another sando joint, or fry him by calling the corporate office and reporting my whorrorah? what says you?

Ok I'll bite. Fry him. I'm sure that's not the impression the corporation wants to present. Maybe they'll sent in the Black Helos and special ops teams and raid the place.

Yea, if you take on the responsability of food prep and/or resturaunt management, you should be a beakon of properness for your employees, and have cleanliness as your first priority.

I think the nationality of the owner in question is of no surprise here, most gas stations seem to be owned/operated by the same people. Evidently, in thier country, cleanliness is not next to godliness, because that don't have either.

find a non chain sandwich joint. the "boss" is usually easier to find.
