Hmmm, isn't Texas a Republic and Mass a Commonwealth?

For me, as a kid, Arizona with its bright colors was the winner. :)

Some states have cooler flags once you actually learn the history.

Va is a commonwealth as well. Makes me wonder how we can have a state police dept.

Hmmm.... this is getting close to PARF

I do agree with the comment on Alabama's flag - it looks incomplete at best. Although I suspect the design comes from the manner in which many people in that state sign their name. ;)

(Actually, it is the same as the cross of St. Patrick, which was incorporated into the British flag in 1801.)

More seriously, I think the state flags of Ohio, Hawaii, and New Mexico are interesting.

Ohio - a unique shape; more of a pennant than a flag
Hawaii - showing the British roots
New Mexico - elegant simplicity

As was stated before, it is the Christian symbol for the cross of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Same for the Florida state flag, I expect. Interestingly, it was never part of the King's Colors which flew on American soil for 170 years.

to be specific, since i am a native, the az flag was designed by the AZ PISTOL RIFLE ASSOC(member) back in 1909 before statehood was reached in 1912. it was designed because each state back then at CAMP PERRY had a flag to represent them. you know CAMP PERRY where those really lousy cant hit a broad side of barn match shooters go to compete.

it was flown at CAMP PERRY up to statehood and then adopted when az was granted statehood.

so when ya come to AZ..............you can learn all about 3 things:

1) how to shoot

2) how to DANCE if yer a moron (do az do time) context. aka "DANCE MO-FO!-KA-POW!"

3) or how to SEW a very nice pretty flag!

Georgia used to have the Mananas battle flag, which was never a confederate symbol for their nation. I do like the new Georgia flag as it is very close to the confederate flag. It's thumbing its nose at the Federal government. I love that.

The Flag of the Confederacy as it flew over the capital building in Richmond, during the administration of President Jefferson Davis (POTCS).
