I sure would hate to work at that Denny's and have to call 911 about an armed robbery.

I see a new mgr. in their future. Looks like a case of a not too bright person trying to implement a policy.

Yeah, best of luck to them the next time they call about a robbery.

"Sorry, but our officers will need to return to the station house and properly store their weapons before responding to the call, per your previous instructions."

Younger floor manager asks them to leave. General manager tells them it is a mistake, and asks them to stay.

Big story.

Wow, you must work for a newspaper with a headline like that. Cops are absolutely allowed at that Denny's along with any other. You need to read the full story (i.e. non-Fox news half truth) before spewing BS in your threads.

They were unidentified, plain clothes detectives and one was asked to leave their gun in the car or leave. As Daniel said, once the store manager figured out what happened he apologized and asked them to stay.

I want to know what kind of baby detectives these were, "At this point the detectives were very embarrassed and felt the situation was entirely too awkward for them to remain and all left the restaurant" Give me a break, talk about showboating for the papers. These are officers were talking about here?? I certainly wouldn't want a cop who gets so worked up over a mistake that they can't just let it go as a mistake.

I choose to avoid restaurants with the little pistol with a red circle and line over it. If they found out the restaurant had the above policy without the sign, I can't blame 'em for leaving.

Looks they don't post signs, but have a no open carry policy. Denny's should have the right to ask customers to not have open viewed weapons. They should also have it posted if this is their policy, so I'll know to go eat some where else. I don't own, carry, or shoot, but I prefer to eat at a restaurant where carrying is allowed.

bio - I did read the article and their command banned them from eating their...shrug

They did identify themselves...but the manager continued. If you were treated like that you'd probably walk out too. And if the CO wants to make a point about how his guys are to be treated, that's his call.

Quote:
The detectives initially thought it was a joke, Sax said, noting that all of the officers had displayed their badges and several police radios were on the table.

“(The manager) stated that he had a complaint from another customer about the weapon and she had to take the weapon outside or leave,” he said.

The manager told the detectives that Denny’s only allows officers in uniform to carry weapons. The detectives said that wasn’t going to happen so they got up to leave.

It's a stupid story about a stupid assistant manager and he or she did not know they were cops when first approaching the table. I would be made uncomfortable by someone displaying a gun in a restaurant if I could not tell they were cops. I do not like open carry by citizens, concealed carry is better, IMO.

It's a lot of over-reaction by the cops and their boss, presumably for the attention. And Denny's blows dick anyways, no one should go there. I have one 2 blocks from me and I've eaten there once in 14 years.

The command saying officers can't eat at Denny's is a far, far cry from "No cops allowed" which is completely untrue.

Wearing a badge and holding a radio is not identifying oneself. Firefighters have badges and wear radios all the time, does that mean its OK for them to hold or display firearms?? What about rent-a-cops?

The Belleville detectives over-reacted, and Fox news and yourself come up with a half truth headline to get attention...good job.

I worked in a sandwich shop in Boston while in college. The owner gave free sandwiches to any cop who came in. His goal was to give enough away that cops were in there almost constantly.

Urth Cafe in WeHo looks like a crime scene most of the time, there are so many police cruisers and uniformed cops outside. They give a 50% discount to all uniformed cops.

It's called "pop", (free or discounted food for police). As in, "you got no pop, you got no cop."

Keep in mind that the average assistant manager at a place like this was probably a cashier a month ago and bussing tables two months ago.

Not big really - but a sign of the times. Over reaction by everyone involved.

Haven't you heard?

Guns are sexy for news.....sign of the times.

way to go cops for blowing it all out of proportion, as biosurfer said it a small misunderstanding was escalated even after the misunderstanding was cleared up then a higher up decides to blow it all up and contract a news organization?? Its even in the article.

that's ridiculous, way to go for making something out of nothing. There are any number of things that are far more important to report on but FOX prefers high ratings for profit as an entertainment based organization.
