I think Glock has done the world a favor by being a very unforgiving gun in the hands of complete idiots. They are totally safe, reliable and accurate guns. But they don't suffer fools very well. I always carry mine with one in the pipe and in a thumb break holster. I dropped it on the garage floor while loading up the bike a few mos. ago. It landed square on the rear of the slide, where the hammer would be on other pistols. Muzzle was pointing right at my face. No bang. And since I always carry with one in the pipe, I don't even think of unholstering that gun before planning to drop the mag and clear the chamber. It's as natural as breathing for me.

Yup XDs are the same way.... You have to pull the trigger to release the slide. I triple check, and still find a safe direction to point mine before I pull the trigger.

i think on a glock..(i have one, but my memory is waning) you have to have the firing pin/hammer dropped prior to disassembly right? so you actually need to dry-fire it? i'm new to glocks. i still need to run the drill a few more times.

Yes, you have to dry fire it before removing the slide. Still no excuse whatsoever for not clearing the gun before you get that far. None. And even if you didn't, you should still have muzzle discipline. But then if you're already so careless as to not clear the gun, well....

I'm still trying to figure out how you shoot yourself in the hand. On the bright side, I suppose he's lucky he wasn't firing hollow points. The wound to his hand looks relatively superficial.
