Somebody that tows a lot set me straight here. If you often towed 26' and 7000 lb, wouldn't you want a long wheelbase relatively heavy vehicle with a tow rating significantly greater than 7000 lb? I always learned that you should try to make your vehicle heavier than your load (within reason), and that the longer your trailer the longer your truck. It seems to me that towing a long trailer with a relatively short midsized SUV with a maxed out tow rating would be cause for some hairy moments.

I tow 20' of boat with about 20' worth of truck, but the boat+trailer only weigh about 4000 lb and the truck is rated for about 9000 lb towing. It tows effortlessly, which is really nice because we use the boat every weekend of the summer.

Yes they are fantastic..

Built like a tank in Japan, not at another Toyota plant somewhere else in the world. Very nice to travel in...quite and smooth but plenty capable off road. Power is good not great. Visability is such that you need to drive one like you would a panel van...be confortable with your mirrors

I have owned 2 of them now an 08 and 11 both have been great. My only complaint about them is I wish they had 4 full doors. The egress to the rear seat is for the youthful.

I have a tahoe now for towing and I hate it, the brakes suck, the MPG is terrible, been having problems with the climate control. before it I had a range rover and a discovery, they worked much better when it came to towing, though the MPG was not that great. and before that I had a Dodge 3500 diesel dully, great for hauling, sucked for everything else. I have always been a really big fan of diesel, more reliable, better MPG then gas or hybrids, so I have seriously been thinking about getting a Cayenne Diesel.

FJ Cruisers suck. I had one of the first- and sold it because it had so many faults. Horrendous visibility, awful rear seat access, choppy ride, front bumper was rubbish (had to replace it with an ARB), AC system went out, very few creature comforts, poor MPGs, and no all wheel drive option with the automatic gearbox. Only positive was that it looked cool...
