Question for AV gurus
So I switched some TVs around and now have a weird AV problem. The TV in the bonus room is hooked up via HDMI to a DVD player. Sound is fine on normal DVDs, and plays fine on the title page on kid DVDs, but there is no sound on their DVDs during the actual film. Disney DVDs, Curious George, same thing. Regular movie is fine. What is that? I can redo a bunch of cables but would rather not since game consoles etc are hooked up too (they could just use those to play them but this is irritating me)
Thanks

Should work.
Try running red/white stereo rca jacks from dvd to tv. -corne- |

Did this happen before you moved things around?
If it only happens on certain DVD's it sounds like a firmware upgrade is needed on the DVD player.

You say the sound plays fine on "normal DVDs". What's a normal DVD?
Are you saying it won't play sound on the Blu Ray DVDs? Could be a compatibility problem between the DVD player and the TV. Try troubleshooting with another TV (preferably a different brand). Best of luck

Is the sound played through an AV receiver or just the TV speakers? I'd start by checking the audio settings on the DVD player to see what they're set to.

Is this a regular DVD player or a Blu Ray player. There are lots of posts in a couple of the AV forums that list several of the new players that do not play Disney and some others discs for some reason? The general suggestion is to return it and get another brand.

All I switched was an LG tv for an older 720p Panasonic. The DVD player (regular not bluray, to tv speakers) is the same, was hooked up with HDMI before so the DVD player worked fine. If I throw in any movie (I tried taken for example) it works fine. The problem is with the so-called "Disney DVDs" or the ones we have that are compilations of multiple episodes of a kids show. The title screen has sound but nothing else. It is so odd b/c the DVD player hasn't changed, so it must be some setting on the tv? Input and audio settings look good.
I've got a bunch of stuff taking up the av cable inputs. I can run audio thru the component in on the tv I've seen so that'll work but it feels like admitting defeat ![]()

Update: I admitted defeat and changed audio input to component and ran RCA cables too and that works. Still, that HDMI cable shoulda worked damnit. The kids don't seem to share my concerns so long as the Pooh DVD plays.
