Just saying they should learn how to shoulder the rifle instead of buying a boatload of rds for a gun they obviously don't know how to use.

The medical condition i suggested was sarcasm...

JTO, Not sure what platform you are shoot 10mm out of but light loads out of a 1911 are a joy. Not are smooth as a 9mm out of a full size 1911 but close. I love the 10mm round.

JTO 07-25-2013 12:44 PM

Matt
I use a Glock 20 and yep it's a soft shooter

$9/20 rounds. and shipping to utah for 100 rds was only $8.

Life will just go back to normal where all the 2000 dollar guns everyone bought in a panic will start collecting dust under the bed again.

500 rds of .22? i go through that in a single afternoon shooting ground squirrels. yes, there are that many ground squirrels.

i reload for my other two cartridge rifles. i've probably gone through over 500 rds. of .308 this year, so far. not tons, but respectable, IMO. as for the .223, i was shooting that thing like crazy until the ammunition dried up along with reloading components. i'll put 100 rds down that pipe this weekend at the range, though. then, i'll reload them. again.

good times.

I can find pretty much anything except handgun calibers if I hit all of the local stores on their delivery days for 2-3 weeks straight. It's progress.

note that they have a disclaimer about internet pricing vs. in-store pricing. i'd just order it online or call them first. they also make a fine AR, IMO.

there is a pair of fields at a crossroads that we call 'carnage corner'. the first time we went there to shoot squirrels, the ground ground looked like it was moving.

I was in Cabelas recently and they had a good supply of 380auto and 9mm as well as 32. Didn't check 40 or 45 though. They did have a 5 box max per customer rule though. No 22 to be found...:(

flatbutt 07-29-2013 10:20 AM

no .22.....are the manufacturers not making it? jeez

J P Stein 07-29-2013 11:33 AM

The guy at the local Bi Mart had some .22 early the morning, last I was there.
The shelves are filling with other stuff.....albiet slowly.
5.56mm was there.

red-beard 07-31-2013 04:54 AM

just got an e-mail that a bunch of .22 had come in to one of the on-line store. $4.99 per box. Wow! Then I saw it was for a box of 50!

5-6 years ago, WWB 9mm was $4.99 for 50 rounds at Wal-Mart.

BlueSkyJaunte 07-31-2013 10:04 AM

So, in other news, I ordered a 6.5 Grendel AR barrel from Alexander Arms in October of last year. One of their standard products.

It arrived yesterday.

legion 07-31-2013 10:18 AM

I just got notification that the .223/5.56 carbide dies I ordered from Dillon in February were shipped...

krystar 07-31-2013 10:23 AM

my local walmart's been stocking 100rnd bulk Winchester white box of 9mm. i got 3 boxes and there were still at least 10 more. 45 acp's back up too. 380 also. some expensive 5.56. even some 00 buck and slugs.

but 22LR is still non existent

red-beard 07-31-2013 11:36 AM

Is it simple hoarding or are the manufacturers not making it?

I can find 22lr in certain stores but some of the prices are outrageous. Something like $125 for a dry storage box of 1000 rounds. Pre panic I could find 500 rounds of 22lr for around $15 a box.

I think it is a combination of hoarding and manufacturers making what they get the most profit on for now.

john70t 07-31-2013 01:51 PM

Who's got molds and a cutter/press?

There is money to be made out there.

Rusty Heap 07-31-2013 02:34 PM

I'm still loving my .22 pellet rifle, no gun powder required.

single cock break barrel, 2 stage trigger, high quality german made. honest Chrono'd 750-800 fps.

RWS Diana RWS 34 Striker Combo, TO6 Trigger. Air rifles

plenty of fun for plinking, even 250 feet out.

500 pellets for $11-12.

Gotta fill beer cans with Yellow Expando Foam to help control the shredding and swinging of a can hanging in a tree at XYZ distance.......

still with the foam...........the .22 pellets shred 'em, but what fun silent fun.

These were at about 125 feet.

Yeah, it turns out that V-max > self-healing targets.

I put 100 rounds of 55 grain FMJ .223 at 50 yards through it, and it still looked brand new.

Then I put 100 rounds of 55 grain V-max through it.

And this is my spoon-cleaning table. Large ultrasonic cleaner can do 3-4 pistols at a time and is big enough for any bolt I own. Small ultrasonic cleaner is full of oil.

Went shopping for 9mm last weekend and came across a few boxes of Herter's Select-Grade TNJ Handgun Ammunition. Cabelas says "Sized to incredibly precise tolerances, the nonreloadable, aircraft-grade aluminum cases cycle smoothly. Premium-quality, round-nose lead bullets are coated with a Total Nylon Jacket (TNJ) to replace expensive copper jackets."

Anyone ever used this stuff? Don't want to mess up my spoon to save a few bucks over regular ammo. But if it is good, then I will cycle a few boxes and save some coin.:)

red-beard 08-09-2013 02:01 PM

Aircraft grade Aluminum? Seriously? 7000 series on cases? Are they machined?

Query...can you put an assembled pistol in the sonicator? The Glock is tough to break down when you have arthritis. What cleaning solution do you use?

legion 08-09-2013 03:46 PM

Yes, you can, but I don't.

You won't get everything out of the barrel without sending a few patches down it.

I use the Hornady ultrasonic cleaning solution for firearms. DO NOT USE A CASE-CLEANING SOLUTION. You will take the finish off of your gun.

This tool is out there to help with Glock disassembly:

Found .22 LR at the spoon store this morning.....limit 5 boxes & not cheep ......but fits in the 25cent solution...(190 rnds for $9.50) but things are looking up.

That comes in at ~$25 for 500 rounds. That is still higher than the $15-$17 for 500, but much better than $0.10 per round!

flatbutt 09-14-2013 06:55 PM

Went to Cabelas Pa today. Found everything except any type of .22, rifle primers and bullets.

A930Rocket 09-14-2013 07:22 PM

I saw six boxes of 1000 rounds of .556 at Walmart for $447 last weekend. Not a bad price. They were all gone today, bit there were some 25 boxes of 556 and 223, as well as some 9mm and 22.

First time I'd seen it at this Walmart in 10 months.

legion 09-14-2013 07:27 PM

I can find everything now. I'm even finding bulk 9mm and .223.

Speaking of which...got my XL 650 set up for 9mm and .223. Finally got the .223 carbide dies I ordered back in January a few weeks ago.

I think I'm going to order a Dillon Square Deal B for .38 Special and my "competition" 9mm load which I typically do in smaller batches than my plinking 9mm load. (And a whole Square B deal press costs less than a everything I need to run another caliber on the XL 650.)

KFC911 09-15-2013 03:45 AM

Yep, everything seems to be back and at reasonable prices, but still no 22 lr

nynor 10-04-2013 02:05 PM

.223 ammunition, $8/20. yeah it is wolf, but brass cases and not steel core bullets. i'd shoot this stuff with my spoon:

WOLF GOLD .223 55grn FMJ 20rd box

even cabelas has proper .223/brass cases for $8.50:

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Ammunition/Rifle-Ammunition|/pc/104792580/c/104691780/sc/104532480/American-Eagle174-Rifle-Ammunition/734598.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Frifle-ammunition%2F_%2FN-1100190%2B4294759021%2FNe-4294759021%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104532480%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat1047 92580%253Bcat104691780%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_ stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104792580%3Bcat104691 780%3Bcat104532480

they have the steel cased herters for $6. that stuff does not work in my spoon.

i love that site. totally forgot about it. thanks!

J P Stein 10-05-2013 04:13 AM

.22 LR today. 500 for 25 bucks........but not on display. Ya gotta ask for it.

mattdavis11 10-05-2013 06:08 AM

Question: Why does one need a lot of ammunition?

Answer: They don't know how to shoot.

I'd rather not wear out the bore on my barrels.

define "a lot", please, as i am curious what your threshold is for "a lot".

i'll pay it forward and give you my definition: a lot for the ARSpoon is probably a thousand or so, in my mind. that spoon likes to eat.

for the VarmintSpoon, i would say about 250 or more rounds is a lot. but i like to feed with that spoon and will go through about 80 helpings in a single outing.

and how does one go about learning how to shoot without using alot of ammo?

mattdavis11 10-05-2013 09:48 AM

I was under the assumption that targeting came naturally.

Having bb spoons as a kid paid off.

I became tired of firing necked down 22/250's and .223's at prairie dogs 500 yards away just to see hang time. Why waste the ammo.
