missed out huge on a barn find
So for about 20 years, a good friend of mine has been telling about his sister and brother in law's old 911.
I asked about it many times, he said he thought it has a 4 cylinder engine and it was definitely a targa. Several times I asked about it but hte details were fuzzy, maybe a 911 S? I was never really sure. One time she said she heard it was worth over $20,000. There was lots of talk about driving the 30 miles to go look at it and check it out over the years, but it just never happened. They weren't sure if they wanted to sell it, it hadn't run in years, I didn't need another project, One excuse after another. I did point them to some of the FAQs and info at PP. To make a long story longer, they finally decided to put it on E-bay. Yesterday I get a call from my buddy, turns out it was an all original 1967 S TARGA WITH SOFT REAR WINDOW! Still had the original solexes in the trunk. Damn thing sold for $71.3k. |

Looking closer, it isn't original paint. Used to be green.
But check it out: 50 some thousand original miles, hasn't moved out of the garage in 14 years, just waiting for a buyer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

it went up 26k in two minutes. I would be happy with making 20k in three minutes!

Something we agree on...there is a curse attached to having an early 911S.

I do...but he now realizes what I've done to him. He no longer belongs to the Turkish Porsche Club or it's antique car club...and once wrote me that he now knows exactly what I meant about people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
The curse of having a nice (or even a ratty one, I guess...based on this auction) early 911S is that you will find yourself among some unsavory characters indeed. Any pool hall contains a much better class of people than some I met among the early 911 set. This a fairly recent thing...never really happened until the values of the nice examples went to the high five and six figures range. Sammy...you were lucky to have avoided the curse. Seriously! Evren would have to pay me to take my old car back.

That is one hella valuable car, though. A completely intact, rust-free '67 911S soft window targa that can easily be restored to original is one of the holy grails of early 911s. Holy Christ.
