What do you shave with???

Hey...Got my new Merkur 180 Long Handle Safety Razor today with 10 Feather Razor Blades in Hi-Stainless Double edge. WOW, I haven't had such a good shave since, well, I don't know when. I've been an Excel user for over 25 years. I don't have a heavy beard, but I go through 2 or three cartridges a month. Damn things are getting expensive. I saw a blurb on the web about safety razors and although the razor itself can be a little costly, the blades are rather inexpensive. I started looking around on the web, and soon found out Merkur is top of the line. Some can be over $300. The 180 was $33.51 and the blades $7.95. This just isn't a guy thing. Good for you ladies too. There is a little learning curve to use one, (different head angle) but well worth it. I actually found a web site about shaving, learned some stuff, like after you finish shaving, rinse and then a splash of witch hazel. My grandmother used witch hazel every day of her life and her skin was like a baby's butt up till the day she died just short of her 100th birth day. Funny the things you forget and then remember...Any way, it is also recommended to use Williams Shaving Mug Soap. They say a cheap brush is as good as a badger brush. Going to buy a Porsche Mug for the soap. Well, that was my day, what say you??? Have a great weekend.SmileWavy Fritz

I shave with a bowie knife. :D

I shave with Occam's razor.:D

Usually use a Phillips electric though. With safety razors you do get a closer shave though that lasts longer.

cheapest bic I can find.

I usually use a disposable and hot water. I have been meaning to upgrade for quite some time. This sounds like an interesting idea. The disposables really never give a great shave.

Same as you, Merkur long handle, going to switch to feather blades as soon as I use up the box of cheap blades I bought online (NACET).

I still have a mach III for the early morning/half asleep/gotta shave fast...

But once you use a safety razor and a badger brush you will never go back.

I also recently ( 1 year or so ago) switched to a double edge Merkur and Merkur or Feather blades. The engineering almost makes nicks impossible and the close shave actually makes the process rewarding. I like the long handle version. I never liked the light weight of plastic razors and Fusion razors are just too damn expensive anyway. I use Noxema as my shaving cream.

You'd think the refill cartridges would be cheaper, but they aren't. I shave my face and head, so loud of shaving, but usually only twice a week or so.

Best razor ever made.....for me anyway......the cheap single blade yellow and white bic.
I shave every few days, at which time I have heavy stubble....
These things NEVER clog, and are cheap enough to use only once.
too close a shave isn't always the answer, like you get with high tech razors.....

I shave on the first of every month whether I need to or not. I'm 48 and on my 3rd Norelco.

Wet/dry paper, 800 grit. I'm a smooth guy.

I just use my rusty bayonet....

Just make sure you wipe the blood off first... The other guys, not your own. ;)

I use a beard/stubble trimmer on a relatively short setting. If I actually shave, I look like a dorky teenager.

Yup. I get 'em by the bag at the Dollar Store. Guess how much I pay.

The key is the shaving soap. And lots of water.

Clam shell I find on beach.

jdonovan 01-11-2013 07:48 PM

Old fashioned double edge razor, blades are inexpensive, and one blade lasts over a month since there are four edges you can use.

aigel 01-11-2013 08:01 PM

I don't! Only trim a short full beard with a $20 clipper. And clean up the neck with a razor and hot water when I have to look fancy - say a customer visit. For that I believe I use a Gillette something. I literally change it once a year.

Once I am out of the workforce, I plan on growing a Santa Claus beard and work at the mall on x-mas. Hopefully I won't be jolly fat, and they will take me with a pillow for a gut.
