I have been using Wilkinsen (sp?) Sword blades from Germany. I get them at Wally World for about 1.80 for ten. VERY nice as far as I can tell. Don't flame me for Wally World, nobody else seems to stock DE blades locally.

Because DE razor blades can be such a PITA when traveling, on the rare occasion when I do travel, I but a cheap pack of Wilkinson's or Rite-Aid/CVS have a house brand that isn't bad. For the cheap price and no hassle, I use 'em for one shave and then pitch them. Nothing wrong with them. Some times a Corolla is the perfect car for the job!

How about the blades? Can I get them from the drug store or am I stuck ordering online?

There are brick and mortar stores that sell these products. DE blades are not common in most main stream stores. But there are barber shops in our area that do have blades and razors or know where there are local sources.

Check some of the Blog sites like Badger and Blade, Shave Nook etc.

Here in Ventura COunty we have the "Art of Shaving" (Mall prices) and we also have the Handlebar Barber Shop in Thousand Oaks. Handlebar is a gem of a shop. You may have a similar shop in your area. I support my local vendors as much as possible.

If you are near Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I shaved this morning, nice straight line on the bottom side of my extended mustache.

Definitely have to keep your face/beard wet, which is why I guess they call it wet shaving.

Earlier this year, TSA conficated the blade out of the razor. It was a guys weekend trip so it was not a big deal to be without a razor. Since then I wondered how good those blades were.

I order all of my blades from Bullgoose (online). 200 Astra platinum blades for around $30. I get 3-4 shaves per blade. Love the DE set up. So much cheaper than quattro or whatever the latest 5 blade crap. I get a better shave and don't feel like Im getting bent over when I buy supplies.

I finally ran out of the Astra blades which came with my shaver.

I'd give up on a blade after a week or two, but lately with the colder weather I think my beard's toughened up some. The blades seem to last 3-4 uses as matt711 mentions above.

This morning I shaved with my new Feather Blades from Japan, huge difference, what a stellar improvement.

I also had a little more water on my brush when stirring things up in my palm, which I think helped even more.

Kach,

You should try the Persona Surgical Blades. They are the ones with the blue wrapper. That is my go to blade. Astras are great, the Feathers are a bit harsh for me. Hopefully that will provide you with a gage to measure.

I broke down and bought a Chubby 2, wow does that thing provide great soap.
