One of my porsche customers just went down to the local Chevrolet dealer yesterday, and signed on the dotted line for one. His 930 is now relegated to " beater " status. I think he is expected to take delivery in mid March- early April. I'm excited for a test drive.

Forward six month's and Vette's would be traded back in (usually wholesaled off) and the owner would be back into a Porsche. The typical description of that buyer. Usually 50+ year old. Sizes up numbers only from magazines / articles BUT rarely if ever hit the track or DE day. So what happens, the bone shaking, stiff ride Vette that also creaked of crappy interior material would annoy them. Further, in real world driving such as cornering an exit ramp, tarmac cracks, the jumpy Vette was more of a handfull. Porsche has emphasized as being an all season, real road performance car and not just for putting good numbers down at the track. |
I broke my right ankle in two spots and compressed my T10 vertabrae in a MX wreck.
I couldn't drive in my truck, or the wife's Jaguar. I was driving the Corvette 3 weeks after the wreck to the Doctors office. and that was with the Z-51 track kit on it. Today if I went to drive across California it's my go-to car. |

Seriously, C5 and C6 Vettes (so 1997 and up) were decent all around performers that also rode pretty well. C3 (1968-1982) and C4 (1984-1996)? Not so much. A new 2013 Corvette rides every bit as nice as a 2013 Porsche 911. Creaks, groans, and rattles? Certainly not within 6 months. I'd be interested to hear Jim Bremner's take -- his C6 Corvette has over 100K miles. Interior materials? Sure, the 2013 911 is nicer than a 2013 Vette. From what I've been told by people who have seen the new 2014 C7 Vette firsthand, they've seriously upgraded the interior finishes and materials. Maybe that will level the playing field a bit. I'd much rather have a new 2013 Corvette Grand Sport w/ Magnetic Ride Control for $65K than a comparably equipped new 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S w/ PDCC/PASM for $110K. It sounds like the C7 would only make that decision easier |
The Mag-ride Control is very neat. Not sure whether GM sourced or developed it on their own, but LORD has been a leader in it.
LORD Corporation - Magneto-Rheological - Automotive Suspensions Years ago I had a chance to sample the magnetic fluid concept. Now applied in other applications and in time, think it will become common. Probably now superior to the conventional, its made the Vette very liveable. Good! |

LORD is just the oem supplier of the magnetic fluid (Rheonetic) used in the system/application GM developed and patented. |
No. Do not like. Batman would like.

Photo taken by my friend Isaac Interesting comparison of the new C7 Vette and the new Ferrari F12 (599 successor) |
Just recently I've started to get a wear marl where my left elbow has rubed up against the door panel. The drivers seat looks like it has 20k miles on it and thats with using it as a salesrep car in and out 10 times a day.
One of the trim pieces that gets pushed on will sometimes dangle off in hot weather. I just reach back and stick it on. I removed the b-pillar trim to run a harness bar on the track and no rattles. I do have a squeek in the drivers seat that sounds like its in the pedals |

Very nice overall proportions with bits and pieces here and there copied from other makes. But I still believe they should have left the interior designing to a European bloke..

I guess if you're going to copy someone, there's certainly worse companies than Ferrari to duplicate. Interesting photo, because I already thought it looked like a 599 from the front.
