Wish there was a better copy of this on YouTube, but... it's worth putting up with the degraded video quality... great song with a nice touch from a B3...

Hard to beat Lucinda's "Car Wheels on a gravel road"

As for the Chicks, I think they got caught up in the moment, mistook fame for importance, said what they said and probably they regreted it instantly and their career was over. Just like that. On another note I once drove to Portland, Maine and took in a concert with Willie, Waylon, Jerry Jeff and Emmyloo Harris. It was quite a night. I think the tickets were less than $20. Saw Willie out front in his bus, there must have been a shortage of cigarettes 'cause they seemed to be sharing a lot of them.

One of my favs...and one of my buddy's standards when he holds "church" every Sunday evening at a local club. I don't venture too far into the "pure country" scene...but Willie, Waylon, Jerry Jeff et al and a whole bunch of "country rock" bands have been favorites for years. Maybe I'm "unamerican" too...don't know squat about the Chicks, but I shared their view on GWB and I voted for the guy (once).

edited: Just realize that I pasted the JDG video instead of Junior Brown...caught JDG once (with the Flatlanders)...great show also!!!

I Guess my main pet peeve here is- the top 40 CMA just will not let the better stuff on the radio.
(Yes Satleite plays them thank god ! )
Some of the people listed above here in this thread are a 1000 times better then the best thing ever let out by the CMA.

Kendall also wrote most of the songs on Jake Owens' first album, making him a star. He is much more talented than Jake, but refused to play the star game.

True story:

The following happened when they were in the high time of their career, they had a golden or platinum album, I forget which, maybe they had several. Doesn't matter.

Natalie's parents lived around the corner from me in Austin. A friend and co-worker also lived in the the same neighborhood, just a block away. She came home from work one evening with a package on her doorstep. She was always ordering from various outfitters and thought nothing to open this particular package with out checking the addressee or sender. Turns out it was not for her, but was intended to be delivered to Natalie's parents. Inside was their golden or platinum album.

The next day she hand delivered the package to the Maines' residence, and apologized for opening it. They were absolutely irate that she had opened it, and certainly not grateful that she had taken the time to bring it to them. In my opinion, they are the kind of people you just don't want to be around, and their children most likely have those characteristics also instilled in them.

I haven't listened to their stuff since, and it came as no surprise to me hearing they disgraced themselves and America.

Why should NEW country be any different than NEW pop, NEW rap, NEW rock, NEW **Fill in the blank with the latest manufactured music**

Commercial music has really run its course, in my opinion.

Not a big fan of country music, but I do appreciate those who have musical talent.

I guess every one (almost) has been gummied dwn to "think" the way they are taught to be bought.
I see no talent in RAP. HELLL if I can do it there cant be ! LOL
To listen to less then 6th grade rhymes really shows the elementary simpleness to new modern anything.
A friend song writer once told me -
If you can tell the next rhyme coming dwn the line b4 it gets there,.. its just bad song writing skills.!
So to test that just listen to great music...Unless you know the words..it will never be EZ to "pick" it out

Here's some authenticity. Elizabeth Cook & Luther Perkins (Tim Carroll)...WOW!

Agreed. I don't listen to rap music at all - I do not see it as enjoyable music - just put it in there for completeness.

And 'manufactured music' goes beyond just nursery rhyme level lyrics -- just about all songs these days are variations on C-D-G major chords or F-A-B major chords. ** YAWN **. (At least throw in a seventh or a minor chord once in a while!)

This. He is awesome in a way that can't be understood unless you see him honky-tonk live.

I recall seeing Dixies when they were kids at a Hot Air Balloon festival in Plano Tx. Such talent. You could hardly look away. They are free to express their opinions but the public is also free to buy/not buy their records.

You need a dose of Brian Setzer. 5ths, 7ths, 9nths and all manner of altered chord structure that one can imagine. Won't play well to those used to hearing normal 3 chord stuff.
