Angry The best laid plans... mini rant

So, my wife starts a new job next Monday, and I had this great idea to surprise her by sending flowers to her new office on her first day. I get all my intel as to delivery address, office hours, contact info, etc. and I even found a local florist who could fulfill the order, instead of going through one of the big online outfits.

Everything was set up perfectly.

Until ~6:00pm last night, when a guy from the flower shop calls. My wife answers (of course) "Hi this is ah Wang [not his real name] from ah [flower shop], I ah wanna confirma a delivawie of [flower package] to ah [name] on ah [date] at [office]" /Chinese accent

Blew the whole damn thing out of the water; 200+ brownie points, up in smoke. He didn't even verify who he was talking to.

Always use your cellphone for such things. Failing that, a neighbour's phone.

A for effort?

Most of my spouse surprises seem to similarly fail. I just tell her it's the thought that counts. She seems to at least appreciate the effort.

I bet there is another florist that will gladly deliver for you when you explain why their competitor will lose the business if you can find a different provider.

Would it have been okay to call your wife about the pending flower delivery if it was a native speaker talking to her?

Winner winner chicken dinner

That said it sucks when someone sabotages a well thought out strategy.
