shotgun: O/U vs SA vs pump

i have started hunting upland game birds. i've been using my friend's mossberg 500. i'll be buying a shotgun in the near future.

what is the pelican trust's opinion on the type of shotgun for hunting upland game?

thanks,

d.

Whenever I go hunting sage grouse in WY, I use an over/under.

Why? It works for me. Shrug.

I use my Ranger semi, just because it is insanely light and fast. I have an old side by side that works well too.

My preference runs to O/U or SxS for Upland birds.

Two shots is enough, more sporting, in my mind.

This is what I practice with:

O/U and buy a good, middle of the road one like a Browning. Replaceable chocks tubes are a nice feature as well.

An o/u has certain advantages over the others.
Disadvantages would perhaps being more expensive and a bit heavier.
What little quail shooting I've done was with a Browning Superposed 20.

I use a Remington 1100 Sporting (autoloader) in .410 for upland birds.

20 ga. SXS or O/U. If you can't get it in two let it go. I prefer SXS myself. English stock for furniture. I had a Weatherby O/U Olympian in 20 choked skeet /skeet. Nothing got by that gun. A good o/u double? Look for a nice Winchester 101. Ya can't go wrong. Mossburg is a cheap gun flame away but I work on shotguns all day.. Also look at CZ they have both SXS and O/U. A lot of value for the price as well. There are others but these would be my choices. What do I shoot? An SKB 200E in 12 or 20. I have them both. Single barrels? Pumps..Remington 870 wingmaster or Ithaca 37. Auto? Can't beat a the tried and true Browning A5.

I have a Stroeger Condor O/U in .410. Solid piece, nothing more, nothing less. I hunt Doves with it and really enjoy it.

this is the benelli SBE kuzzin. this is mr M-1 hk/benelli 21" barrel. this is what mr. bad guy gets to meet at my house.

mr. M-2 benelli is even cooler i just cant find a pic yet. hes only 18" long, so mr M-2 wont hurt mr bad guy as much. its much more politically ko-wrecked.

note: vented rib and turkey sight on mr M-1 HK/BENELLI. mr M-2 is kind of like tacti-kool, all sorts of picatinny rail stuff and pistol grip and extended mag tube. total hoot when the dove quail zombeez are attacking at 5am(at dawn we attack).
