Java problem

Anyone know about some problem with Java scripts? Heard it on the news that you should turn it off if you have it. One site I read said to upgrade to version 10 and then go to your control panel (windows) java security setting and turn it off until the exploit is fixed.

The Ipad seems to have a setting in safari to turn it off.

Maybe someone who is knowledgeable about this can chime in.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. Went on the web to do a little checking and decided to turn off the Java plug ins on my browser (Firefox.) Apparently, the problem is not with Java script but with the plug-ins--don't know the difference between the two but there is some difference. Anyway, with the plug-ins disabled, I've not encountered any issues with the sites I normally visit. Once you turn them off, you can go the the Java site and determine if your computer has any Java programs currently running. I figure, why not take a little precaution?

It's due to a new exploit already in the wild that Oracle doesn't have a fix for yet

Java is not the same as JavaScript

You want to uninstall Sun Java

Dunno if the exploits apply to other JVM implementations like Ice Tea

I'm using Firefox with NoScript - JavaScript/Java/Flash blocker for a safer Firefox experience! - what is it? - InformAction, but there has been a random problem with locking up the hard drive for many many minutes at a time.
Quite...wearing...

Disabling a lot of unneeded pluggins (DRM/adobe) seemed to do the trick so far.

If you have Firefox, you can easily disable it temporarily until the upgrade comes out.

Go to your add-ons manager and disable. I figure it's easier to upgrade rather than go through the whole reinstallation process.

Easier to disable. When the fix is out, just have java update the program. If you uninstall, you'll have to reboot and after the fix is out, you'll have to go out and download the new version and install.

I went to disable it on my laptop. It doesn't have the disable function. I checked it via "Programs" and it appears to be version 6.0.370
