Wow. Cold in the desert.

9 degs. Our eggs froze and exploded. All water frozen. Nuts. I like being "city folk". Camping out here is a test. I slept in a down jacket inside my down bag. Nice view!

Where's the white stuff?

aigel 01-15-2013 11:04 AM

You hiked eggs into the backcountry?

That's nuts!

The only non-dehydrated thing I hike in is beer. And I drink it before it freezes. ;)

I would not want to camp in 9deg. weather. Low 20s is still comfy, but after that it just is a mess.

Good Luck!!!

We have a base camp going. We are hiking out every morning. My feet are dead clumps:)

BlueSkyJaunte 01-15-2013 11:27 AM

29 degrees in my driveway this morning. I thought the heated seats in my TDI Jetta would be as useless as tits on a boar here in Phoenix, but I guess I was wrong.

sammyg2 01-15-2013 11:41 AM

It was 41 this morning in So Cal, I put on a new pair of mechanic's gloves to keep my finners from freezing.

Rick Lee 01-15-2013 11:50 AM

Never thought I'd see this.

I thought it was global WARMING? Now I'm so confused......

red-beard 01-15-2013 12:20 PM

Pool water at my place is 53, so it is not going to freeze.

It was very cold in Vegas at the end of CES Friday & Saturday. It was warmer in Toronto when I got home. Here is a pic of snow in the mountains from the 21st floor of the Venetian looking SW.

Back patio this morning @7AM.

We're approximately 7 miles from the beach.

Christien 01-15-2013 01:53 PM

It was 15C here on Sunday (just under 60F). Normally in mid January we're well below freezing. Unfortunately it went back to normal yesterday :(

Hugh R 01-15-2013 01:54 PM

One of my garden hoses ruptured a day or two ago. The outdoor recording thermometer said it was a low of 27 degrees in the middle of the night. I'm at 1,500 above MSL and about 30 miles inland from the beach.

ltusler 01-15-2013 01:55 PM

0 in Minneapolis this morning, put on a flannel and went to work.

crustychief 01-15-2013 02:11 PM

My shop has no heater so I backed my car up to my desk! It stayed warm for a little while.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1358291510.jpg

22 in NE PA. Long sleeve Watkins Glen T shirt and a hoodie. Went for 3 mile walk.
No gloves or wool cap until 0, they retain too much heat.

Baz 01-15-2013 02:20 PM

Heat wave here in Florida. Sweated a LOT today - in my shorts and tank top work clothes. ;)

Rapewta 01-15-2013 03:40 PM

Got the oranges off my trees yesterday. So cold here in Sacramento, Calif.
How cold is it? The birds won't fly in it. They are all walking, I swear.
Played two 7 inning games today of Softball and we all froze but at least the grass was iced up and no slush & mud.

ossiblue 01-15-2013 04:13 PM

Yeah, cold in SoCal! I also thought I'd never use the seat warmer in our car but I sure did this morning. Driving to pick up my granddaughter at 7:30 this morning on the 5 freeway, all of a sudden, a dash alarm goes off right at the Ortega Hwy. exit in San Juan Capistrano. I look at the dash and the message reads, "ICE DANGER. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE 36*"

Didn't even know my car had that warning feature!

911boost 01-15-2013 04:20 PM

Thermometer in my truck said -3 the other day in Fort Collins on the way to the airport to head to New Delhi. It isn't too bad over here and I'm heading south tonight where it will be warmer.

Vash, what are you hunting?

Bill

szyzygy 01-15-2013 04:22 PM

It was -15F here last week. More on the way!

Tim Hancock 01-15-2013 05:02 PM

Huh..... and all this time the CA guys have been claiming how warm it ALWAYS is out there.

That reminds me of the one time my ice alarm went off in my old 325e.
4:30 in the morning, it's dark as all get out, I'm half asleep driving up the 405 to go to work.
BONG BONG BONG
WTF is that!

Sure woke me up in a hurry.
Scared the crap out of me.

Tobra 01-15-2013 09:08 PM

Red, you don't worry about the pool freezing as much as the pipes, or the pump. Leave it running or drain it .

I think the tangerines are going to be okay, sweet enough they won't really freeze. I got about 40 or 50 pounds. The mandarin is in a container. I put a tomato cage on either side, toss a sheet over it and hang a light in there. Set it between the grapefruit and navel orange tree, pretty sheltered, fairly close to the house

Watering trees last few days, have it going right now as a matter of fact, have to move it in about 10 minutes. The cold stresses them, they will suck up a fair amount of water and perk up pretty well. Thought I messed up with my Meyer lemon a few days ago, but I put some water on it and it came right back.

A couple of friends and I started riding our bikes with lights around the Rosebowl at 8:30 pm after the kids goes to sleep so we can burn some baby fat. My feet and fingers have been frozen since I got out of my truck. Normally, I do not use tights and did not tonight. Now I am thinking twice about going out with them. It must be about 40-45 degrees out.

Tobra 01-15-2013 09:46 PM

you have to wear something that will cover your knees, ought to have full finger gloves at those temps too

I had knee warmers on, and have not worn tights in years. I am always able to warm up after 30-45 minutes. Tonights was one of those nights where I was never warm. Getting too old for this crap. Fingerless gloves had to go after tonight..

Bill Douglas 01-15-2013 10:47 PM

I hate to say it... But it's summertime around here. I spent the afternoon at the beach :)

My pool has a temp sensor. If the air temp drops to 35F, every pump turns on, including the fountains. 3 years ago we had a bunch of days below 35. I ended up attaching short hoses to the fountain outlets and running them directly into the pool to reduce the fountain noise at night.

We're just bltching. Within a few weeks the temps here in AZ will start trending upward again, and it won't stop until October. :(
