the 80 year old man across the street from me is a GREAT pistol shot!!
he is an retired cop. i sometimes sneak over there to cut his lawn. he knows not to shoot the guy with the yard tools. he told me he retired his police special .38 special and bought a new Sig Sauer P239 in .40SW. for his 80th birthday gift. he was so proud to show it to me. it is absolutely cool. the guy has his concealed carry and is NEVER without a handgun strapped to himself.
he just had to go down to the precinct and re-qualify for his carry license. he showed me his target and it was astounding!! he asked me to go down with him next time. he knows the rangemaster and they are willing to run me thru the paces to see if i could theoretically qualify like a cop. i've done it before with my brother's group, and i swear this guy would kick my butt. i bet i dont qualify!! this should be fun..and the guy just had a section of his lung removed!! maybe i am not the "protector" of the neighborhood like i thought i was. he had a box of confiscated brass knuckles. i do like my neighbors!!

My dad is 75 and still a gun carrying cop, I'll tell ya there aren't a whole lot of people that want to try and match his skilz with a handgun. Age really doesn't have much to do with it. I learned that lesson the hard way.

I swapped out my P239 for a P226 to have more rounds. The 239 was the most accurate pistol I had, especially with the .357Sig barrel installed. Tack driver!

My 226 is very accurate. I just love sigs. The new tactical ones are super nice!

That old guy would have some skills. It's a good thing he's willing to pass on the knowledge.

The 239's a nice shooter, it's near the top of my list for non-wheelguns. I have classic car mechanic-sized hands (read: small), so the grip size helps. When I used to shoot a lot I could probably have qualified pretty easily, the range I was a member at was popular with the local PD's guys and I used to shoot in the lane next to them all the time, and with an auto I was usually on par. With a full-size revolver I could outshoot just about anybody I ever encountered, including all of my LE and Military vet friends, but a full-size 686 Plus isn't much of a carry gun.

Some of the old dudes I see at the range are impressive shooters. It's cool that your neighbor keeps his skill level up to a high standard. Sadly many cops don't. Good luck during the qual course. Remember it's all about sight alignment and trigger control.
