RC fun in the mud
Forgot how much fun rc cars were until I drove my buddies the other day which gave me the impetus to finally get mine back together. It rained last night so I brought it to school and took it out in the dirt lot behind the parking lot for a bit of fun.
With the new motor/esc man is this thing freaking fast and the torque! 4 wheel burnouts on command from a stop or rolling on dry pavement geared for 35-40mph right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Blows my friends slash out of the water, as Clarkson would say it's weapons grade performance

My 8-year old son has a Slash and the brushless Ken Block Fiesta. Damn those things are fun.

That's a cool buggy. Nitro or electric? I did a nitro car for a while, lots of fun but couldn't keep it in one piece...

It's electric, I'm glad I went with electric as it's really come a long way. It's definitely the way to go in my opinion.
The best part about my buddies slash is the bullet-proofness. With the one piece motor mount and the new electrics It should be pretty problem free for now. I was originally going to do a Porsche Martini style paint job on it, that's why it's all white but then I realized I'm a lousy painter and it was just going to get trashed anyway.

My son beats the hell out of his Slash and it just keeps going. In over a year he's only broken the front suspension mount and burned out one motor. Parts are cheap and available at the local hobby shop, and it's easy to fix. He'd like for it to be faster, so we may do a brushless conversion in the near future.
LSA, what's the story with yours? Is that a full-custom one, or did you start with something else and modify?

'recently got back into this because of boredom. As a kid I had the usual Tamiyas (Thundershot, Bigwig...remember those?) and a nitro Kyosho Stinger. They taught me a lot about mechanics and engines. I recently bought a DBX and now have an MP777. You can't break the MP. Fun as all heck. I can't believe how much these have come down in price from when we were kids. Gotta be the China factor.

I have an electric AWD Lexus IS 300 (I think it is technically the 250 in Japan, as the 1st gen didn't have awd in the States). It was loads of fun when it was together and working. I used to take it out to my frozen pond and pull spectacular drifts with it. I think it would do around 30-35mph.

Shin those are some awesome pictures! It's not just the initial cost that's come down overall cost of ownership with brushless is great. No maintenance, no burn in period no shenanigans. Nic that's similar to when the beach is windswept and the sand is flat and a little compacted, you can just hold these massive 4wd powerslides.
Matt if it's brushed, brushless is a huge upgrade. I'm nowhere near talented enough to fabricate something like that all custom. It's an Axial exo buggy, they were a crawler rc company and this was there first go fast rc. It was just about to come out when I started looking for an rc last year so I jumped on it. Came as a kit which pretty much is a rolling chassis with no electrics so I had to pick and choose motor/esc tx/rx steering servo. The only mods I've done are the better shocks Proline Powerstrokes (for the Slash actually), a metal spur gear and a one piece billet aluminum motor mount. The original designed motor mount was two pieces and cast from some garbage pot metal and broke or would back out so the pinion wouldn't be in contact with the spur anymore. Also put four equal width wheels on it instead of the initial stagged set which were narrower up front with the same BFG tires that the slash uses. These are the actual specs Motor: Viper vx4 5150kv ESC: Viper Copperhead R Servo: HiTec HS-5646 Waterproof, metal gears Batteries: 2s 6500mah 70c Hobby People Tx/Rx: FlySky Gt3b Suspension: Proline Powerstrokes 50wt oil all around Gearing: 52/13 Wheels/Tires: 4.5mm offset standard sct Hobby People wheels all around

As an adult, I'd rather spend just a little but more money and get a Kart or ATV, or other toy that actualy gets bugs and mud on my own face than toy truck. And yes I've owned many a many R/C car/boat/glider/airplane, but nothing like getting the real weather and G-forces instilled into your butt, not via a joy stick. to each his own, R/C cars are a great way to induce real world mechanicals to kids.

as I said "school".
While a senior in College, I once deliverd a can of beer to my next door neighbor in the back of my R/C truck. Get out and play with your WR250 more, it's worth it while you're young, when you're old and knees/back/wrists are shot, you can do R/C and even built models of ships in a glass bottle.............then there is Golf and Bowling in tacky plaid poly-ester pants with the waistband up around your nipples, but I'll save that post to send you in another 20-30 years.
