Don, Sorry to hear that things are that tough for you. Hope you have exhausted all treatments possible.

I enjoy your posts here and would like that to continue as long as you are also.

Any chance that a change of location and circumstance could help change the balance for you?

All the best.
Richard

My completely "not trying to be parfy" response: It would really suck for some folks if Hell is real.

Yep. I wouldn't let a dog suffer like we humans are expected to...where's the Dignity in suffering & crying out in excruciating pain? Bed pans & some person who is pretending to care, as they wipe your soil. There is such a thing as our God-Self Being to be Loved & cared for. Who will if we don't? I suppose the ultimate accountability.
.
The Beloved, our Dignity. Not just words anymore to me...but rather quite real and actual.

Very kind of you, indeed, Richard. I'm as happy as a bird on a limb right now - no real pain, etc.
I'm just thinking about the inevitability of it all.
.
Thanks. :)

Helium. Its the weapon of choice for those that are serious about a painless exit. Two tanks of party balloon helium and a big shower cap and away you go. Takes a couple of minutes but apparently its painless. Some individuals are selling kits to help people depart this world.

An engineer I work with in the UK took himself out this way a couple of years ago. He made sure that he offed himself last thing on a Sunday night but had sent notices to friends and family via Fedex to arrive on Monday morning so that they would know it had happened. Cleaned up his computer and put his affairs in order. He was only 41 but fortunately single with no dependents.

Also don't want to get parfy but that is predominantly Catholic belief... not necessarily protestant...

Carry on!

Autoerotic asphyxiation ...... :p

shooting and hanging are messy, you aren't thinking about anybody else if you do it that way. but then I guess you won't care after.
I have a friend with cancer, he will be around another week or two, maybe, Morphine doesn't to it for him, they won't give him enough to help, a paramedic friend told him last week to get a months worth of sleeping pills from the doctor and accidentally take a bunch of them.
You need to be careful, some life insurance won't pay for suicide, even if you are going to die next week and in miserable pain.

I say, I'll take my chances with the Universe.

Have you told your doctor about your fear of pain. Docs are taking pain control a lot more seriously than they used to. He might be able to help. I wouldn't worry so much about losing your dignity. I used to think about my dignity, but I've discovered the people I wanted to be dignified around didn't really care that much about it. And strangers - who cares what they think? BTW the folks who cared for my father through is alzheimers didn't pretend to care - they really cared. They learned to love him and cried with the family when he died.

But back to PPOT. I wouldn't mind going out in a motorboating accident. See the chest thread for the possible dangers.

I've been thinking about this recently. My cousin was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Life expectancy is two to ten years. He will eventually suffocate, which is my worst cause of death fear.

If I offed myself, it would be with arsenic or cyanide laying in the Coroner's parking lot. Minimal fuss for everyone.

Interesting question.
How about a triple dose of Viagra and blood pressure meds. I believe that will decrease your blood pressure to fatal levels and you can die with a hard-on.

You can put a white flag on it.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but.... water poisoning.

Nobody would know that it's a suicide unless you leave a note. If insurance is a question, then I would *not* leave a note of any kind. Just say your goodbyes verbally to the people closest to you, and only in an *indirect* way such as "I'm really grateful you are part of my life; you have made a huge positive contribution in my life, and I am very grateful. Thank you!" with a big hug of course.

Buy six (6) gallons of distilled water... it's important that it be distilled water, so there are no electrolytes... do not eat any food for at least 10 hours, so your stomach is completely empty, and then start drinking the water... drink at least one gallon an hour, the more the better. You will probably pass out in 3 - 4 hours, and you will not come out of it.

Before starting, place the water jugs so it's not obvious what you're doing.

Cheers and tally-ho!

If I were ever to go down this road, I can promise it will NOT be drowning myself in a lake! Ditto for hanging, falling, and decapitation. If I die any of those ways you can be sure it was a staged murder!

Suicide by cop....

Cheerful subject. I really don't think that many of us would have the guts to take our own lives. That is why there are so many old people in the old folks home. By then it is too late and you don't have the resources for snuffing anything out.

When I moved my mother last year out of her group home into a more controlled blind home I threw out all her pills. I think she felt cheated of a dignified death. Breaking a hip and dying a year later just added more discomfort for her.

My plan is to drink heavily in the winter and then go to sleep on the hill behind my house. It was good enough for the indians, therefore it works for me. No sitting around in my own filth in some nursing home.
