22 years ago today...

My friend Larry posted this on his Facebook page today....

Larry Herrmann

Every day is full of historical milestones, but today's is personal. 22 years ago, we sat in our camp and watched the Battle of Khafji rage on the Kuwaiti/Saudi border. A few days later we moved out to the desert and prepared for the real start of the Desert Storm ground war, but seeing that plume of smoke on the horizon and seeing our bug out vehicles sit idling all day long really drove home the point of what was about to happen. Here's to my friend Art Zasadny who was there with me and all the other Desert Storm vets. That war is kind of forgotten now, but lives on in all of us who were there.

Forgotten only by those who are irrelevant!

Art - thanks for sharing those poignant comments and very special thanks for your service.

Baz and the girls

When the SHTF we experience a unique bonding that really shows what we are made of. Family cannot even comprehend that unique bond. Thanks for being there Brother, I had your back with TLAM's. from the Gulf.

Art, I don't see that as a forgotten war at all. To me its a good example of the sort of effort that we should make whenever we decide to intervene overseas. Well planed and executed. Decisive and quickly over.

Thanks to you and all that have and do serve our country. The politicians should have more personal stake in the efforts they lead us into.

Cheers Richard

Thanks to both of you for serving!

Is that Larry Herman that lives on PA, owns an electrical co. and posts on Rennlist? If so, I met him the track years ago. What a great guy.

I have business in al Khafji and travel there at least once every year. And every time, I am reminded of the battle. Much has been rebuilt, however there are scars all around for those who know what they are looking at.

Thanks, guys. Ooo-rah.

Thank you! I would love to see some pictures of the area if you ever take any... I spent a lot of time at Ras al Mishab, near the boy's school, near the airstrip. My tent was next to the mosque (and the morgue tent)...
