Haha I'm the opposite. Since the kettle is on all day I need one that does not whistle. Even though its on low or 2 all day it still whistles if it has one.

Haha I don't have a whistler otherwise I would. I'll keep my eye open for brands on whistling ones and post back if I find one.

We bought one that didn't whistle a while back. I think we got it at Marshalls or something like that. It looked just like this which is a "Chantal"

bell, do you have a coffee maker?

When we want to make tea, we just run some water through ours. Works great.

I just boil water in a pot (probably inefficient)...how long do those take, and do you have a specific one that's "good"?

We've got one of these by Zojirushi.

It seems to be a high quality unit that has been going strong for 5 years.

I think there are a couple of other Chinese manufacturers that make basically the same thing, but cheaper.

Steve, how tall is that one? I need something to use for my French Press (probably 8" tall). If that one is tall enough, could you do me a favor and see how long it takes for 26 oz of water? Thanks...

Kc, I just bought the electric kettle that is the best seller on amazon. Seems to get to boiling in ~5mins and works great for a FP, bought one for a friend for her press a d she loves it too. It's an aroma brand I think. Right around 40bones.

Sid is correct. an electric kettle is a game changer. during the winters we drink alot of tea. our kettle is non stop in use. i've nicknamed my wife.."fire and forget".

she will place any vessel on the flames..and simply walk away. forever. the elec kettle saved me from buying cookware and/or industrial scrubbers.

it takes (depending on volume) 2-4 minutes to go from cold to boiling.

BONUS!! nothing will make hardboil eggs easier. FYI..if you boil the water dry while cooking eggs. just toss the pot. it is a goner. so buy one that you can flip open the top to get egg in and out of
