Plug Gap

Got an ignition tune up kit for the E30, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil. Looking at the Bosch plugs. On the box it says that they are gapped to .031. Car manual say to set gap at .027. I checked the gap on the plugs and are showing all to be .029. So does it really make that much difference between .028 and .027 gap?

My guess is that the margin of error is at least .001 when setting the gap. Between the human eye and your gapper, nothing is perfect. I'm surprised you can even set it, with most of the plugs going to a fine wire center electrode or multiple ground electrode, most can't even be gapped.

Dont worry about it. Only thing you really need to worry about is NOT running Platinum plugs in these engines.

I41: What year/model E30? I have some spares from my '87 325is (long gone); I can shoot you a list if you'd like. Am happy to box them up and ship to a fellow Pelican; maybe just ask for shipping costs in return. Interested?

I always go with the lowest spec found. It will only go up from there.
