Maybe they are doing this but who knows. I would think they could dig out (by hand) around the bunker to possibly learn a way in or maybe see in with a fiber optic camera. Or maybe I've been watching too many Jason Bourne movies.

He'd hear digging.

Dig slow and quietly. It's been five days they could have it all dug out by now.

CBS reporting bad guy dead, kids is alive and safe. Details coming shortly. Sounds like a spec ops resolution to me.

Great news.

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. — A law enforcement official says a 5-year-old has been safely released after a days-long standoff between police and the boy's abductor.

The law enforcement official briefed on the situation said Monday that Jim Dykes, the man who abducted the boy from a school bus after fatally shooting the bus driver, is dead. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss the situation.

Sweet news that the boy is safe. I'm interested in how the assualt took place if there was one. Anyone have an update?

Best possible outcome.

bivenator 02-04-2013 05:30 PM

Wow, good news. Didn't see that coming.

URY914 02-04-2013 05:40 PM

All the news sites seem to be carrying the same AP story.

I bet they used my bee suggestion. :D

. "We would like to thank ury914 on pelican parts ot for the suggestion of using bees, without him we would still be standing about." said Lt Vance of the Alabama State Troopers

FBI agent: Child in Midland City hostage standoff now "laughing,

Quote:

Agent Richardson said, fearing for the child's immediate safety, FBI agents breached the door to the bunker and removed the child. The boy was rushed from the bunker and placed in a nearby waiting ambulance.
Well, that's about the best possible solution. The child is fine, at least physically. The taxpayers will be spared the expense of a trial for Mr. Dykes.
A hardy "well done" and "thank you" to all the law enforcement officials involved would see to be in order.
The whole thing is sad, however.
Bus driver dead.
Vietnam vet dead.
Child perhaps scarred mentally.
Two parents scared out of their wits.
A whole bunch of cops inconvenienced.

It's a ef-ed up world sometimes....

Always amazed at how the keyboard experts have better solutions than those that spend their whole lives with education and experience in solving these type of problems....See it everyday on my local "News" discussions....

The "keyboard experts" are well meaning and want to get the situation resolved as much as anyone. They are just stating their opinion which is what this forum is all about. What is amazing is when people are criticized for stating their opinion on a forum which is all about stating their opinion. ;)

Published: February 12, 2013 Updated: February 12, 2013 - 2:58 PM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
The mother of an Alabama boy held hostage in an underground bunker for days said her son witnessed officers fatally shooting his kidnapper.

Jennifer Kirkland's comments about her son, identified by authorities only by his first name, Ethan, came in an interview with psychologist Phil McGraw for an episode of the "Dr. Phil Show" that is set to air Wednesday.
In a promotional clip posted online, Kirkland said her 6-year-old son saw officers shoot the gunman identified as Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, of Midland City.

THe healing power of national exposure. I sure hope they don't put the boy on TV.
