Alabama hostage question

I have been wondering how they are going to go about getting this whack job out of his hole without harming the kid. I considered a sleeping gas like in the old Batman tv series but he probably has a gas mask. Flooding it will harm the kid. Can't storm the place with guns blazing. It's quite a pickle.
I can't imagine the parents or child's emotions as they wait. Certainly hope for the best but this doesn't look good.

Awful situation. The only real option is to talk him out.

I'm sure the cops will do their best.

+1

This is the only option.

Proceed very carefully and let the bad guy do the right thing.

They need to put bees down the vent hole. He'll come running out like a little girl. ;)

If the child is allergic...bad news. Guess need to know that for sure. Yet still, the guy may just get so pissed he kills the child as revenge for the bees....

Tough tough spot.... how much food does he have - anyone know?

The hostage taker seems to have a past of unstable behavior. If the cops are not careful, he may harm the kid just to prove to his sick little self that he is superior. He is a sick SOB that has already killed one person, so his days of freedom are over. I hope the negotiators can talk him out.

Maybe they should back off leaving snipers in place to pick him off if he pops his head out. I can't come up with a scenario in which the kid is unharmed during rescue. Maybe a flash grenade to stun and then a quick execution of the turd.

This sounds like a good strategy for when someone sits down in a neighboring stall.

All I know is what I see on TV & movies so I am an expert. ;)

It would seem that they could put a small dose of some sort of sleeping agent. A slow increase in the concentration to just make him sleepy. He can't stay awake forever.

The good news is they have real experts there that know a little more than us. It is a tough situation. I really feel sorry for the kid. If he survives he will need a lot of counseling.

Our son has the same diagnosis as the child being held. I can't even begin to imagine what the parents are going through.

Having a "normal" child is hard enough but having one with Aspbergers and ADHD is a challenge in itself. I;m glad they are able to get him his medication. It would be in the captor's best interest to let the boy take it.

I hope eveerything turns out well for the child. I really don't give a flying @$#% what happens to the bastard that took him.

Thats freaking funny !!

I think a task force should have stormed it as soon as possible.....No telling what is going on with those kids...

If it was my kid , I'd want immediate action..

aerosol fentanyl then listen for snoring

andrew15 02-01-2013 05:25 PM

The Russians used a sleeping gas in a hostage situation a few years back and tragically found that the doseage levels required varied greatly between body sizes. Something that would put the abductor to sleep would possibly be enough to kill the hostage in this case.

same stuff...but completely different situations. Fentanyl kills when folks stop breathing...but is preceded by sleep. Here, there are only two people. If they could monitor sound and get in relatively quickly, fentanyl could be the ticket.

weseeeee 02-01-2013 05:42 PM

Flash Bangs are a hugh risk with kids. The room is small and who knows how well vented. That could cause an over pressure situation that may be unhealthy. If they suspect any abuse, I think they will go in. Until then they will continue trying to talk him out, and wait for him to make a mistake.

GH85Carrera 02-01-2013 07:17 PM

Just use nitrous oxide. Order less taste less and just puts you out with a smile.

URY914 02-01-2013 07:27 PM

This from another forum and from someone that lives in the area.....

"Met some very nice people at the vigil. I learned that the reason the negotiations have been so difficult is that he has no demands. They aren't getting anywhere. Also, he seems to be taking very good care of the boy. The little boy's father is deceased, so it's just his mother but there is also a grandmother that is very close. Family of both the boy and the wacko are having to jump from hotel to hotel because the media won't leave them alone."

KFC911 02-02-2013 01:28 AM

Sounds as if the wacko may have a "soft spot" for the kid inside his crazy mixed up head...there's still hope. I would think "waiting" is still the best of "not many viable options".
