Decorate My Office - Cycling Content

Let's test you guys' and girls' talents at decorating.

Recall I'm on a kick to improve my workspace after realizing I've been suffering from low energy and down mood, what I'm calling S.A.D. although I don't know if the severity fits the clinical definition.

I have added 400 watts of "daylight" CFL to my workspace and have another 200 watts coming. I am also looking to replace the tubes in the overhead fixtures with daylight tubes. My desk area is now quite bright indeed.

I am also taking 10K IU/day of Vitamin D. And I have decided to do more outdoor exercise (road cycling, running), shifting a bit from the indoor (spin class).

Now I want to decorate my office a bit better - partly to cheer it/me up, partly just because it needs decorating.

Currently the pictures are a large B&W print of Paris, a medium B&W print of a sports car, a small dark painting of John Coltrane, and a small color print of a bicycle race poster. Otherwise, a lot of mocha-colored wall that is sucking up the light and energy.

Here are my choices - all gleaned from scanning eBay. My goal is to get some color/brightness but I also like my spare B&W theme, so I may end up getting multiple prints. Unless noted, they are poster-sized and cost $10-30 each.

Your choice(s)? Number is limited by the available space.

A. Coppi and Bartali dueling high in the French Alps during the 1949 Tour de France

B. repro promotional poster from the 1925 Tour de France

C. an ‘80s Klein poster that I remember from back in the day

D. the Giro D'Italia peleton starting a climb high in the Italian Alps

E. a 50th anniversary poster for Campagnolo

F. a promotional poster for the 1976 Olympics

G. a promotional poster for the 1996 Olympics

H. a small poster of Greg Lemond during the 1986 Tour de France (only 11" x 17")

I. a promotional poster for the 2002 Giro D’Italia ($300)

J. a poster of Greg Lemond and Bernard Hinault, I think this is climbing L’Alpe d’Huez during the 1986 TdF (only 11" x 17")

Pics of office would help.

Square pic is a racecar photo.

Large print is Paris, little dark painting is Coltrane, on column is small bike print.

Window faces east, so at sunrise (I'm always here for that) I get blinded - of course there is no visible sunrise during winter - then in the afternoon it gets no sun even in the summer.

My first thoughts were D & J would fit with what you already have but, I don't think more black and white will do much for your mood. I think you need some fun, colorful accents.

Hmm.... those are OK, but how about Martina Jancikova

This could inspire a lot of pleasant thoughts.

John- Pity you. I've been lurking that VERY Klein poster on fleabay. Think there might be snipe action in the end. LOL - Scott

BTW: Probably a fire sale on Livestrong posters too

You could always make some art from an old frame.
Here is one that I'm going to use at some point.

+1 on maybe hanging some vintage bike parts on the wall as objects de art.

From the view I can tell where your office is... but don't worry I ain't telling!

Speaking of hanging bike parts -

I have one of these, unbuilt, in near perfect condition

You'll recognize as the kind of bike ridden by the great Scottish climber Robert Millar in the early-mid 1980s

I was thinking of find a picture frame larger than the frame - suspending the bike frame with 10 lb test mono line so that it is "floating" in the picture frame.

Hmm. Is it actually possible? Suppose one had an image, like a negative or a positive (print). Are there companies that can create a wallpaper from the image? Any rule of thumb on what size negative you need for a wallpaper to look decent?

I like the art posters best... but that is just my taste...

herr_oberst has a great idea! My brother did that in his livingroom but with a beach scene from Hawaii.

Totally do-able. Sign shops are the place to start. Let me go talk to a salesman and I'll give you a place here that you can start looking.

Oregon Blue Print can get you started. My sales guy here (we don't do this stuff anymore) had a lot of great ideas, so if you don't get what you need from OBP let me know and I'll give you his number
