I heard about this on the radio this afternoon. Pastor gets a little too high and mighty and the server take it to the web....

Her reputation was ruined for being a cheapskate and then hiding behind religion to justify it. Her reputation should be ruined. If my pastor did something like this (and was unrepentant about it) I would be out of there.

On the flipside, I strongly dislike restaurants who automatically add the tip percentage to the bill. No incentive usually results in poor service.

Before you label me a cheapskate...I tip well enough to have wait staff use their seniority ranking in order to wait on me.

As a side note......8 people ate for $35???

If you read the story, they asked for 8 seperate checks, and paid for them with one card.....


Basically were being cheapskates all around

It's funny how, often when we try to make a statement, we're embarassed by the attention we get.

The waitress will find another job soon enough. Good for her.

Perhaps the pastor/customer has learned an important lesson about "internal dialogue."

Any place that auto-adds 18% to my bill just ends up short-changing themselves...and incidentally also loses me as a customer.

That said, the "pastor" has a bit to learn about having to deal with the real world. Maybe she can try paying her utility bills with sanctimonious twaddle. I wonder how long it will take before they just shut off her power.

They all ate for $4.37 each......praise the lord.

I agree with the auto gratuity on a large group. I know plenty of people in a group that always stiff or cheap on the tip...

If you can't do the time - don't do the crime.

Meaning do not dine out - if you can't afford the tip!

Technically, she DID afford the tip, and that's what made her upset. She wanted to leave less. She's obviously never been a waitress.

The patron was/is cheap, and she's hiding behind religion as an excuse. That's way worse than just being flat out cheap. Isn't that one of the morals of Canterbury Tales?

If I'm eating out after church on a Sunday, I tip extra to make up for cheapskates like this. The worst is leaving those "billion dollar bills". PUHLEASE DON'T DO THAT UNLESS YOU WRAP IT IN A FEW REAL $100's FIRST!!!!

So true. I can't believe that place is still in business. I'd rather live on snacks from a gas station.

On large parties that aren't related...sure auto tip should be enforced.

Applebee's is a small step above fast food. It's really fast food with a menu and server. There is one by my house and is always packed.

I was a waitress in highschool, there are a lot of cheap bastards out there. they'd never let us auto add gratuity to big parties and often times we'd run out butts off just to get stiffed.
I leave big we'll deserved tips as a result of this and good service.
