Keep the old 10/22, just because you don't use it much is not a good reason to get rid of the old gal.
Personal opinion here as well but if you are buying a handgun for protection, get a .45, the rounds are really slow, they are really big, and they do very ugly things to body parts they come into contact with.
Not in the popular list of guns but I love my Ruger P90, I have had it for many years and it is what I carry. That just goes along with buy what is good for you. This one is good for me

Keep in mind that it can also be a neat gun to pass along to a young relative, be it a kid, nephew / niece, grandkid or even a kid you mentor and want to give something to that they will cherish and remember you for.

Just my .22 cents.

...

Yep... add my .45 worth of opinion too :D

ps: I also find my ACP to be a LOT less recoil than some of my revolvers...fwiw.

My father just bought a new Ruger 10/22 at the local Gander Mountain yesterday. He bought the wood stock version and my BIL and I will be helping him zero it in and get a nice scope for it. These rifles should be kept, not sold!!

Jim

I subscribe to that theory....

and if you want to throw stupid money at them they are really accurate.

I tucked it back away. I know the newer ones are a lot of plastic. This one has the metal trigger guard and nice wood. I'm leaning towards the "have both" theory. The 357 I had was a nice gun. I also liked it because you could either use 38 ammo or 357. The 45 has been recommended as a good one for the home protection aspect. Good knock down power for sure. I'm in no hurry for this. All of your input is much appreciated.

If you sell. Let me know Dan.

If you want to have some real fun with a 10/22, check this out. Must be illegal in CA, but it's so much fun at the range.

Good thing keeping the 10/22. Even if you don't use it now, you might in the future.

Why not a 9mm or a 380 if you can find one?

I would lean into the "have both" as well. Here is a bit of perspective on active auctions for the 10/22 and parts: Rifles, Shotguns and Handguns for Sale - Buy Handguns, Rifles, and Shotguns Online at GunBroker.com

Makes zippy sense to sell an old 10/22. I would, however, clean it up, shoot it, clean it some more and store it properly. I have begun to like Frog Lube for seldom used guns.

Enjoy.

Good food for thought. I may just keep the old girl.
As to the pistol, looking for occasional recreational target shooting/home protection. Nothing more.

Make sure you go price ammo. I don't shoot my 1911 nearly as often as I should because .45 is so expensive, more than 2x the price of 9mm. Subsequently I wouldn't be prone to grabbing it were such a thing ever necessary (God forbid), because I'm out of practice with it. Practice makes perfect, there's nothing worse than keeping a gun for "home defense" that you never shoot.

I haven't shot a basketball in years...I might not swish a jumper anymore, but I'm still gonna hit the rim :D.

They are the fastest selling semi auto we sell at the shop. Always in short supply. Keep it.

I love my 10/22. it's shall we say modified.

Getting married to my wife 20 years ago, my father in law asked "why do you need a 50 round banana clip for your .22?

I answered "in case I miss the target the first 49 times........"

syncroid 02-08-2013 11:24 AM

I finally found a picture of it. Here it is.
