Didn't hurt me. Maybe Denis will get lucky.

Sorry about the stone. Sounds painful. Heard it compared to peeing jagged bb's.

Are they any forms of precautions to prevent these in the future? I'm kind of curious what sort of changes need to made to prevent kidney stones.

Years ago my urologist prescribed 2 drugs: Oxy + Buscopan. He told me that during an attack, the kidney spasms as the tissue tries to dislodge the stone. The Buscopan is an antispasmodic that stops the spasming while the Oxy will reduce the pain. So my fix is: On the onset of the 2nd pain wave, I take one of each & curl up in a whimpering ball on a heating pad to sleep. When I wake up, the pain is gone - although my kidney will still be tender for the rest of the day. Ymmv . . .

Depends on your gauge plumbing vs. the gauge of the stone. ;)

Haven't had one, don't want one, hope you are feeling better soon, Dennis!

Gutes Besserung!

When I was burned last year (Memorial Day), the Dilaudid was the only thing that touched the pain....

Denis, if you need a ride home today, call me.

Sometimes I get some mild pain in the kidney area and wonder what's up. I hope I can dodge this bullet. Sucks!

Yep, it hurts bad. I had it couple months ago. It occured at night, when everyone was at sleep. I thought I was a man, so I drove to the near by ER, at around 2am. No one of the road except me, but will never do that again. I was almost on the ground when I walked through the door.

Long story short, got my neighbor and buddy who happens to drive an ambulance for a living to drive me here. No way I could have driven and wasn't sure if insurance covers LA city fire ambulance rides, yes they do send you the bill.

Spent about an hour in waiting room moaning in pain, then a particularly sharp pain followed by relief. I've had one once before 20+ years ago and know the symptoms well. Almost just got up and went home but figured I might as well have urine checked to confirm. This is some crazy-ass pain when it's happening, boys and girls.

Had the same thing happen a few months ago. After the CT scan, and they announced kidney stone, it was a relief...I'd been thinking worse things. Doc called me a stoic because I listed the pain as 8 on a 1-10 scale, he saying most come in screaming in agony.

Ended up getting some pain pills, some flomax, and a funnel with a screen in it to catch the stone when it passed for later analysis. I always thought they were white. Mine was as black as my mother in laws heart.

The funny part was that because it was a busy night in ER, they placed me in "the" room with a camera in the ceiling, a sign that read somethiung like: "You have been placed in this room because you are determined to be a danger to yourself and others. You are being recorded. Anything you say can be used against you." I looked straight into the camera and said; "I never met her."

I've never had one but, I've been told its worse than giving birth w/o drugs.

Thanks, Hugh. I'm back home but you are a real friend. My neighbor, (a car guy BTW), drove me and then sat there with me for 3+ hours. He is an EMT plus going to school for nursing, at 4AM he had been up for 24 straight. I called him in a panic @ midnight, sort of "HELP" :D because he lives in the building and we're good buds.

You find out who your friends are when the schit hits the fan. You and several others here are in that category. :)

Mine has always been the "Misery" type. Some of them have edges that are shiny/sparkling as crystal when look closely http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/vuur1.gif

speeder 02-07-2013 11:15 AM

They found blood and crystaline(?) in my urine sample.

My buddy, the EMT, told me that he was surprised how well I handled the pain. I told him that I felt like a biotch moaning like that for hours. Apparently he's seen people react more strongly to kidney stones. I found the pain frightening until I figured out what it was. It feels like something is REALLY wrong with your insides. Like you drank battery acid or something.

vash 02-07-2013 11:17 AM

i read an article where one guy got them so bad that he had the offending kidney removed!! egads.

i drink alot of fluids, and no booze. i hope the stones are like shooting white water rapids thru my kidneys.
