The Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey
(the only song of theirs to reach the Top 40 chart at #9)

But obviously, Uncle Jerry is measured in ways other than commercial radio "success"

(True, my selections may have gradually degraded.. but I can't go any lower than the Satanic-Cult /Inventor-of-Black-Metal-Band: The Osmonds..)

Yeah, agreed, The Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited was a huge hit, they had many hits, and are in no way one hit wonders.

Great thread, Doug. You have created a MONSTER!

Here's something you may have forgotten:

Ween--Push th' Little Daisies

Ok i admit "Space Woman" was never a "hit" but I slipped it in there anyway...

"Zager And Evans - In The Year 2525" That song is gonna be HUGE in 2525...

I would argue that Marillion also had Kayleigh

uh, there are several mis-fires on this thread.. Several of these bands have had multiple hits. and it needs to be broken down by decade..

yetibone 02-08-2013 02:39 AM

Yes, Marillion had a bigger hit with "Kayleigh". Also, they hit someplace else with 'The Assassing".

I guess my definition on one hit wonders is a little different than yours. I'm OK if there are two or three commercial successes. My point is whether the original album is just filler with one great song. If yes, then I'll buy the single = one hit wonder. As far as the pointer sisters, like I said when I posted it, I only like "Fire."

I'm not denying "Come on Eileen" far out shadows the rest of Dexy's Midnight Runners songs, but if there were a decision on whether to buy the single vs. the Too-Rye-Ay album, there is no question in my mind to buy the entire album.

This is an album you can listen to in its entirety, it is a master stroke of genius. I would never part with this album.

1. "The Celtic Soul Brothers"
2. "Let's Make This Precious"
3. "All in All (This One Last Wild Waltz)"
4. "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)"
5. "Old"
Side Two
No. Title
6. "Plan B"
7. "I'll Show You"
8. "Liars A to E"
9. "Until I Believe in My Soul"
10. "Come On Eileen"

Well in that case, I can't believe this one hasn't been mentioned....another 80's gem:
