HVLP Paint Sprayer

I'm in the market for a paint sprayer. My purpose is to use it mostly for spraying latex on doors and trim. I want to keep the price around $100.

I like the new Wagner paintready because it is supposed to spray unthinned latex. But it didn't seem to get great reviews.

PaintREADY HVLP Sprayer-0529002 at The Home Depot

I'm also looking at the Wagner Control Max. It got great reviews but I'm not sure it can handle unthinned latex.

Any experience or recommendations?

If you already have an air compressor in your garage why not get one of the air rigs designed for latex?

Why not renting from your local rental yard? At the end it might not be cheaper, but at least you will get a quality product to use, and you will avoid the frustration and bad result of a cheap unit.

FYI we rent the Graco hvlp unit. it's a great product.

Interesting, can't help on the topic but I did have a question about what you're doing as we are just finishing the floors in our basement then moving on to doors and trim. Do you spray the doors are trim once mounted or before you put them up?

Cheers

Smart man. I own this Graco Unit Graco TrueCoat Plus Handheld Electric Airless Sprayer

While I like the sprayer, I wish I had rented! I've used it twice (both times for a lot of louvered doors and trim) so it sits.

There is no good $100.00 HVLP sprayer, btw...are that price point they are junk.

I would pass on the HVLP and go the rental airless route. With proper tip selection and using the lowest pressure which still achieves a nice spray pattern, you can vastly outperform any HVLP made. HVLP's use very low pressure so they struggle with thicker waterbased paints.

Try a smaller airless with a .211 tip and you will love the result. While overspray is a factor, HVLP's produce it as well.
