Any suggestions on sourcing ammo for my semi auto, 45?

That's a shot shell press Zoa.

I suggest camping in front of a Cabela's, or intercepting all of the ammo the Feds are ordering.

That's one of the calibers that I've seen on the shelves around here and Matt (Onewhippedpup) mentioned that he saw plenty of it in (I think) Kansas City just a few weeks ago...are you in any hurry? Four years ago, NOTHING could be found here, but six months later, all the "crazyness" disipated and all the shelves were back to normal...YMMV.

The shelves never got back to normal here. Well, I would say the "normal" became maintaining a large stockpile.

If you're trying to tell me that you couldn't walk into any Wallyworld and buy any common pistol/rifle cartridge 6 months ago, then I'm calling bs :D. Plenty of "us" did the smart thing and purchased after the last go round of "hype" was over and I would suggest others do likewise.

9mm and .223 have been difficult to come by the past four years. I've had to travel to buy them.

.40S&W is still pretty easy to find. I have a new-to-me Commander I need to test out, but don't want to burn up 100 rds. of the .45ACP I have stockpiled. Try ammunition to go dot com.

And PM me if you want the contact info for a private reloader who sells for pretty decent prices.

To be honest, I never pay a bit of attention to .223, but rifle cartridges that start with a .3 etc. and all of the pistol stuff was readily available here.

What's the deal on purchasing ammo and sending it to someone? One thing I have noticed with the .45 ACP lately...boxes of "20" showing up on the shelves

20 ct. boxes are very common and have been since the whole CCW movement started 20 yrs. ago. 20 ct. boxes are usually the expensive carry-type rounds you don't want to use for range practice or plinking. Since they're expensive and usually for carry duty, people don't buy them when stockpiling.

Shipping depends on your state. Everything is legal here.

onewhippedpuppy 02-10-2013 06:58 PM

I've seen the most .45 of anything. If you get lucky and stop by your store just after a shipment comes in, you're golden. I picked up some 9mm a few weeks ago at my local Cabelas, they had everything except .223 in stock. I was in there on Friday and they were back to bare shelves, they had a little bit in .45 hollow points as well as the usual hunting ammo.

lowyder993s 02-10-2013 07:03 PM

So...from the other side of the spectrum...I bought 3 cases Heavy-Metl #2's for a goose hunt. In stock but would take 24-26 day to process order. WTF, Over???

Had to cancel and buy from another who could get it to the guide in time.

KFC911 02-10-2013 07:05 PM

Of course I was used to seeing 20 ct for .44 mag/special etc. but only until recently have I ever seen .45 ACP in anything other than 50s (and I didn't pay close attention, but they weren't anything special). It just caught me by surprise when I saw 'em...it's a recent "happening" here at least.

JavaBrewer 02-10-2013 07:11 PM

Local WalMart and Turners had cases of .40 but as of today out of everything. Honestly if you really really need ammo now hit up Calguns marketplace. Otherwise pursue another hobby until things settle down. Prices are crazy.

Evans, Marv 02-10-2013 07:36 PM

I'm waiting for things to settle down, since I'm not in a hurry. I'll go to the gun show & buy a decent supply when there is more availability - that is if the gun show can still do business here. The local little town near where it is held is protesting it & wants to get rid of it.

Doh! Sorry, should have seen that. I just Bing'ed "loader" and grabbed it quick. Thanks for the smack upside the head. The concept is intact, tho. Looks like loadin yer own's prolly gonna be the future.

This is the smart approach. I see ammo listed on armslist for 4x what it was selling for last year. I'm just not going to do much range time until it calms down, and it eventually will.

id10t 02-11-2013 04:55 AM

The only way to find it now is to either camp out and wait for a store to restock, or get online and find a seller that has notifications when something gets back into stock.

KFC911 02-11-2013 05:02 AM

As I recall from 4 years ago (I was eager for some "additional" .357 to break in my "new" Marlin lever ...damn you Pelican posters :p) Wallyworld deliveries came in on Tue (around here), but they'd never know ahead of time what they were getting in. Took me several months to find some "crap" stuff to run through her on a fishing trip in the middle of "deer country"...waiting it out is "$ound" advice :D
