Ugly guests or good guests....

This past week's vacation has provided me with more thoughts from our stay in Palm Springs. While on the computer in the Best Western lobby getting our boarding passes I overheard this woman - about 60-70 yo and nationality unknown asking for a hotel room because the hosts they were staying with threw them out of their home and were not supposed to leave for another 3 days. She was indignant that this could happen to her. I wanted to ask but did not as to why they thought they were thrown out? There are always two sides to every story.

For my wife and I we do not like to stay at other peoples' homes and we rarely have anybody stay in our house except for one of her cousins. If people come into town we offer to put them up in a guest suite in our rented out condo building. It costs $40/night and we would offer to help pay that for our guests. To be perfectly honest we do not like having people in our house and we do not like to stay at other peoples' houses. Your thoughts? Are you the perfect guests? Are you the perfect hosts/hostesses? Do you have any rules, bad experiences etc?

On the plus side we have met several couples we have hiked with in Palm Springs area. Hikers are generally nice folks irrespective of nationality.

Generally I dislike other humans.

I hope that helps clarify my position on the matter.

I generally like to pay for a room in a nice, near motel when we have guests. I think visitors like/need privacy as much as we do. I don't mind guests staying, but I feel most people are more comfortable with their own space at the end of the day. I don't like staying at other peoples' houses either as a general rule. I don't like staying in hotels or motels either, but a nice one is just as good or better than someone's home.

I almost refuse to stay at someone elses house because I can't sleep due to a multitude of reasons, while my wife snores peacefully next to me. I value my privacy way too much to have people stay with us.

I don't even tell people I'm in town till the day before, if at all. Prevents the "ya have to stay a week!" BS.

We're moving to TX and the movers left this afternoon with all our stuff. My neighbor has asked is to stay at their house several times. Each time we decline as an air mattress on the floor is better than "dealing" with their kids and a new place.

Close friends and family are always welcomed as guests in our house. I feel fine accepting a night here or there from family and good friends, it becomes a great visit. I am lucky enough I guess never to have an annoying two times removed cousin or casual acquaintance ask to spend the night!

If we have dinner guests and a couple of bottles of wine have disappeared during the evening, we offer the spare bedroom to our guests so they don't have to drive home and risk having an accident/impaired driving charge.
We have some family stay with us on occasion but after 3-4 days it gets a bit much!

We have very good friends and family with whom we are comfortable having in our home and being invited into their homes for a few days. Of course, the close friends are people we've known for three decades and have shared a lot of memories.
Other than that, I'm happier staying at a B&B or hotel.

Everyone is different!

I don't mind having guests stay over, but if they are going to stay, an ideal guest would at least pick up the entire check for a lunch or dinner. IMO, that's the least they can do for our generosity.

It really annoys me if someone spends 2-3 days at our house and we go to a restaurant and they ask to split a check.

Maybe i'll have a different attitude when my 3 teenagers are out of the house and we can keep it clean, and clutter free once again.

Right now, I have too many cars in the driveway, too many TVs or radios blaring different stations, too many dishes in the sink, too mach "lazy teenager drop it anywhere" clutter, and not enough sleep to be socialable anough for other guests.
