Skyfall

I bought it on iTunes (which sucks btw). I enjoyed the movie. IMO, the best of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. It's very very British, not Hollywood laden with special effects and ridiculous gadgets. Mostly great acting by Javier Bardem and Judy Densch. And I LOVE the hot bond girl. I want to find me on o' them half Cambodian/ French girls now! I thought Casino Royale sucked. Quantum of Solace was very good, but the script was dodgy. Skyfall was very well written, and Bardem is worth watching over and over. I also thought the development of the supporting characters is fantastic.

I can't wait to see the next Bond flick now. I hope Daniel Craig stars in the next one as well. I love what they did with the franchise with this latest installment.

I DLed it to an Apple laptop. As a lifelong PC guy, I am starting to like Apple, finally after about 5 months of adjusting. In fact, I love the MacBook Pro.

varmint 02-14-2013 05:50 PM

i'm told bond cries. i'm not paying to see 007 ****ing cry.

rusnak 02-14-2013 05:51 PM

without spoiling the plot, I think in this case 007 is allowed to cry.

HardDrive 02-14-2013 05:52 PM

I did like the film, but the whole venture to his childhood home was a bit far fetched.

Beautifully filmed.

New Moneypenny is stunning.

rusnak 02-14-2013 05:55 PM

yes, the fact that it was his childhood was farfetched. But I loved the place. I also just went with the whole family story. Very interesting dimension added to Bond, that's for sure. New Moneypenny kicks azz.

Christien 02-14-2013 07:05 PM

Definitely the best of the Daniel Craig bonds. Best Bond ever? Just might be. I've only seen it twice, so I don't think I can make that decision for myself, but it's definitely excellent.

BeyGon 02-14-2013 08:08 PM

Saw it at the theater, I think the best I can say is it was ok, just another Bond movie.

HardDrive 02-14-2013 08:10 PM

I have to say, the character depth was much better in this film. The relationship between the villan, M and Bond worked. The character of Sévérine was a bit of a throw away, but that short scene in the bar painted her character in pretty well. I can't say I'm impressed with the new Q.

rusnak 02-14-2013 08:19 PM

I absolutely agree about the new Q. meh. Severine as a character was another in a long line of Bond throwaways. But the actress really took my breath away with her eyes. Another welcomed detail was the new office, especially the door. The dry delivery of conversation must have been directed, so constant as it was throughout the movie. As I say, it feels very very British. Loved the DB5 too.

pegasus9 02-14-2013 10:04 PM

I liked Skyfall, very much.
It was a bit different and I thought it was refreshing to have a more personal type of plot.
Good stuff and the soundtrack rocked too.

pwd72s 02-14-2013 11:16 PM

Noticed it was for sale in COSTCO yesterday. Didn't buy it.

svandamme 02-14-2013 11:45 PM

For the love of God, Bond fails all his missions in this movie, that's a new low.
Supposed to catch the microchip, fails, get's shot by his aide
Supposed to protect M, fails
Supposed to be a secret agent, yet his childhood family friend adresses him with his code name, or is it because he has no code name?
The list of pathetic goofs is huge.

vash 02-15-2013 06:53 AM

did you just type "dodgy"..you cheeky bustard!

hahaha..i will watch the film for sure!! thanks for the review.

Agreed.

Daniel Craig as Bond has always bothered me. First off, in the first movie (Casio Royale), there was an issue since Craig, the actor, could not drive a stick shift car. REALLY? Bond can't drive a manual transmission? C'mon.

The fact that the rocket launcher in his car has been repalced with a defibulator is also pathetic. What's next? He's going to trade in his gun for a pair of Depends underwear? And he might as well exchange his martini for some metamusil.

** Spoiler altert **

And in Skyfall when he is captured on that island and inferred that he may have had fling with another man -- well, that just closes the door on it for me.

Daniel Craig as Bond does not work for me. He simply can't hold a candle to Sean Connery.

/Rant off.

I don't understand how some people called him the closest Bond to the novel when CR came out.

how the hell was he anywhere near the Bond novel is beyond me.
Fleming wrote Bond to be like him as the spy he wanted to be.
Fleming was a dandy.

Lazenby was a dandy, Craig is closer to "thug" then to "dandy".
there is not one scene in any Daniel Craig Bond movie where he looks remotely elegant enough to be a true James Bond..
He's to short, to muscular and his head looks like he's a bouncer in a night club, you can never get the idea of "pitbull" ready to bite out of the scene when he is in it.
And that's just not Bond like.

The franchise has hopelessly derailed, it's so far away from what Ian Fleming had in mind, it's a sad thing really.

varmint 02-15-2013 10:36 AM

broke my own vow and watched it.

what is the logic behind trying to strangle an enemy while underwater?

rusnak 02-15-2013 11:00 AM

British MI-6 or SIS recruit agents from SAS and other armed services.

James Bond would most likely look more like Daniel Craig than say....Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore. Connery was great but one of the great aspects of Bond IMO is the resiliency of the story franchise. I personally like the evolution of the main characters.

The character "Kincade", the innkeeper when he first sees Bond says "James......Jaaaames Bond!" He was surprised to see him again. He does not refer to him as 007. The role was expertly done by Albert Finney, another actor that I always enjoy.

The new Bond girl, Berenice Lim Marlohe, absolutely captivated me. I will look forward to her in other movie roles.

compression of the carotic artery will incapacitate the enemy faster then when you wait for him to pass out from lack of breathing, which would affect you about the same if both are "in shape" , have good lungs and are under water .

Well Bond isn't about real life MI6, it would be a lot less enjoyable to watch.
Intelligence work is for the most part boring and waiting around for your assets to work for you.. spies rarely infiltrate themselves.. They certainly don't drive Aston Martin's or ware tailored suits...
Bond is not about Mi6, it's about what Ian Fleming came up with for reading pleasure. Turned viewing pleasure later.

rusnak 02-15-2013 11:17 AM

I agree with the obvious. Bond is a fictional character. MI-6 is what they are.

Is Jack Ryan going to help steal a Soviet nuclear sub? Mmmm....maybe not.

On the other hand, if a person tried to watch movies with a stick up his bum, then all of this fantasy stuff would be so childish.

Here's more Severine:

Here is a sketch, drawn for Fleming. This is how he pictured Bond. Decidedly not at all like Craig.

David Niven (one Bond movie) probably looked most like Fleming's Bond. Connery somewhat.

Niven wasn't the first Bond...

911_Dude 02-16-2013 05:41 AM

I really like Daniel Craig. But this wasnt one of his best. When I watch a Bond film I want to see action, cool stuff, and hot women (which in this day and age should be showing more skin!). This movie did not deliver.

Did not like the inference that Bond had tasted the skin flute. Hopefully he was just trying to not be one-upped by the bad guy. But in reality, it was probably throwing a bone (giggity) to the gay crowd.

Baz 02-16-2013 06:00 AM

"My name is 'Pussy Galore'"

Bond: "I must be dreaming."

=========

For me there is no substitute for Sean Connery as 0-0-7........

Good to bring this up. EVERY Bond enthusiast should read the book The Life of Ian Fleming by John Pearson (written in 1966). I finally got around to reading it just this last year. It might make one change their thinking of Bond, his feelings (Bond character) and what Fleming himself was about, fantasy, relationships and will add... complications from alcohol. You also get an idea of the mechanicals -- how the Bond story came to be, writing, book deals to TV and the movies. Well worth the read.

---Skyfall. Enjoyed it and well done.

Personally,( save Quantum of Solace-which was a mess) , Craig's Casino Royale and Skyfall are the best two bond flicks since the early (pre Diamonds Are Forever )Connery era.

I do like OHMSS also-Lazenby had potential, too bad he quit after one ( or was removed, depending on the story)

The Living Daylights was OK, but Dalton (good actor) is a weird fit.

The Moore and Brosnan movies were often just too silly.

In my opinion, Craig's Bond has revitalized the series. I like Ralph Fiennes as the new "M".

Looking forward to the next one.

mb911 02-18-2013 12:51 PM

I rented it last night I liked it allot, sorry to see M go I liked her character. I am also suprised not more skin but we can really see that any where. I thought they did good job of making bond look old and worn out . Well done

tcar 02-18-2013 01:18 PM

The Bond stories are every bit as true and factual as his other, fairly famous book:

"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

Baz 05-22-2016 07:24 AM

Watched it last night on the SyFy Channel....thought is was great.

You can't beat Sean as 0-0-7. He'll always be the best.

But I'm glad the franchise is still alive and well.....

KNS 05-22-2016 08:04 AM

I realize this is an old thread but as to Fleming's idea of what Bond Looked like - he actually mentioned it a couple of times in the novels: like Hoagy Carmichael (but with a scar on his cheek). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1463933067.jpg

"Thunderball" was on MGMHD last night, uncut, no commercials but for one short intermission. Happily watched it again.
