Interesting topic.
Funny, growing up, I had a few male friends but MANY more female friends...I found the conversation with women easier and more interesting. There were a number of guys I was friends with who if you aren't speaking about work or sports they have nothing to talk about. This gets particularly boring; especially because I find following sports is silly. I like a good game for the competition but if I am not playing I could give a rats ass...for the most part. That said, now that I am getting older, I am finding that I am enjoying the company of men more now. I just needed to hang with guys who had some similar interests and I realized I just had unique interests. Find a dude who can chat about cars, planes, fixing stuff or science and I am good. While I do enjoy friendships with women and they are great conversationalists, they are much more high maintenance. The "I didn't call you because you weren't calling me" kind of crap. I loath passive-aggressive behavior and you don't get that with men. We just said what pisses us off and get over it. So, I have become an equal opportunity friender now. Oh, and related, yes, the people in metro areas are very much "look what I have"s which is lame. I am looking forward to moving somewhere away from that.

I'm either on my own, in the company of one woman or riding with my biker buddies. When I do make a new friend it is usually a bike kinda guy. But my friends are few and, they are mostly guys and I .

At my age, women are a bit more tolerable than they used to be. The consensus among women seems to be that men are more fun to hang around with. More easy going. Women probably make more sense, but men are less anxious. It takes less energy to be around men.

Women are so freaking dramatic which is why there are not too many I can tolerate. Every time I tell a "friend" how I really feel it ends up in a big dramatic showdown. Last week I got invited to a birthday party by someone who knows exactly what a crappy person I think the honoree is. I tell it like
It is and it's they've all but declared war on me. I don't have the time or energy for that ish. My guy friends never get mad and if they do they tell me why, we get over it. If we don't talk for a weeks, months its assumed its only because we were busy and not something sinister. |
