How many candidates for best picture do you generally see prior to the Oscars? With apologies to Hugh, I can't recall the last time I saw even one.

I saw all of the films that were nominated for best picture.

I wouldn't have picked any of them.

There were two films in 2012 that I really liked.
Searching for Sugar Man - won for best documentary
Moonrise Kingdom - nominated for writing

None. And I couldn't list a single Oscar nominee. I just really don't care.

I saw roughly 20 films last year in the theater. Looking at the list for last years best picture, I didn't see any of them. Tried to see Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty but couldn't schedule a time to see them when they played. The others as usual were not up my alley...

Most years I see one or two that are up for best picture.

Not that anyone asked, but here is how I would rank the best picture nominees.
  1. Lincoln
  2. Silver Linings Playbook
  3. Argo
  4. Life of Pi
  5. Zero Dark Thirty
  6. Django Unchained
  7. Beasts of the Southern Wild
  8. Amour
  9. Les Misérables

I saw Academy screeners of Argo, Silver Linings, Zero Dark Thirty and Les Miserables. I liked Argo the best (worked on it). Les Miserables, man that was torture.

this^^..but i talk smack. i always say, "man, i am going to watch that film!"

i never seem to find the time to watch a movie, at the theater. i have seen NONE of the Oscar films. i only knew they were oscar films, because every DJ was talking about it on the radio on this morning's commute.

Have not seen any of them.
None of the trailers for these films caught my attention.

Guess I'll watch the videos.

Wanted to see a bunch of them - but only saw Argo last weekend On Demand. Will probably do the same for Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark 30. Argo was good, but not sure it ranked up with previous years winners. Interesting and engaging, but the ending a bit too Hollywood.

I go to the movies about once every decade or so.
I usually see movies when they hit cable, and not on that 'spensive HBO cable stuff.
I wait til they're on the cheapo base level showtime!

I did not find Argo to be anything more than a "popcorn" movie. Really nothing special about it IMHO. The Life of Pi was a major yawn. Southern Wild just plain sucked. Lincoln and Silver Linings were very good. I found Zero Dark Thirty a bit disturbing. But what do I know.

I tend not to judge movies by anything else other than "am I entertained?"

And Argo kept me on the edge of my seat even though I knew how the story ended
