Yes it is a sim. You can still find them brand new sealed on ebay for next to nothing.

Really terrific but caveat! Although I recently reloaded it on a brand new PC (2012) with Win 7 64bit with plenty of proc./dedicated graphics/RAM and it took the machine down during the set-up! I have NEVER had a program do that. Re-formated the entire drives and OS, rebuild everything instead downloaded the free Histori-X. Its an open source with thousands of others and making unlimited tracks, cars, etc.. However you need to have the GT Legends original disc only once during the set-up of Historix. Only wish I could find more time!

NSU TT. I've never heard of it, but lots of other people have.
Google search showed tons of pix.

This looks fun. Might be worth buying an older tower PC to hook to the big screen for some fun. I hate that Gran Turismo doesn't have much P-car content.

The problem with Windows 7 64bit and GT Legents is the Starforce protection on the CD/DVD crashes it. You can get it through Steam for $12 or under depending on the sales going on, and there was a place that would give you an electronic copy if you sent your disks in. You can toss the cars around a little more than the other racing sims from Simbin which makes it more fun to me.

I wish it had the 917/30 and the 962 like we did with Sports Car GT. You have to recalibrate your thinking in the 917/30.

Might I suggest the Forza series for excellent P-car content. You can further download many different skins for your favorite liveries from xbox live. Have to buy an xbox 360, but the graphics are great as is the simulation. I passed on buying a PS3 when they kept delaying Gran Turismo. Not going to buy it now at the end of the PS3 life-cycle.

GT legends is based off of the old Sports Car GT engine if I remember correctly. Simbim based a few games off of the same engine, such as GT Legends, GTR, GTR2, and GTR Evolution. All great games when played with the proper set up. On the right system, the graphics are excellent (might have to play it on Windows XP.) The simulation is as good as it gets IMHO.

Thanks for the info. I have the Historix on another PC which took the GT Legends disc (only for HistorX install) without any issues however I'd like to install it on a laptop. Concerned it might take it down during install on the laptop.

Although the laptop is backed up, so much is configured and time involved, I don't want this laptop to corrupt. HistoriX requires GT Legends original disc during install so would you know if the download would suffice? Does it have this menacing Starforce garbage?

The Steam and electronic copies do not use the Starforce crap and will run on 64bit machines, it is only on the physical disks that Starforce craps everything out.

Is Historix for rFactor?

The engine is from Image Space which also did SCGT, but it is a newer version engine (Same as rFactor). It runs good at 1080 on my older machine. Probably would work good on any of the new laptops. Lots of car and tracks available if you take the time to download them and is much easier to mod than SCGT ever was.

(edited to add)

This is best played with a force feedback wheel of some sort. Preferably with a patterned shifter. I would love the Fanatec, but have a lowley Logitec for now.

Duh. I totally spaced that. Yeah, time to move back to XBox.

I'm a big fan of GT Legends and I've spent many hours driving Daytona, Lime Rock, Le Mans and other favorite tracks.

There some great user-generated add-in cars models out there, including 934's and 935's.

A great community exists that supports this sim at nogripracing.com.

I put together a new PC recently, and now it runs better than it ever did. The PC is relatively high-end, with 16 MB of ram, Win7 Ultimate 64 bit, etc.

Running 3 screens in "eyefinity" mode REALLY increases the imersion level, as well as giving more realistic vision into corners and vision of other cars on the track.

I really do think it has helped me drive my 911 3.2 better. But it is downright disconcerting to drive on a track (Lime Rock) in real life after having driven it in this sim. Especially since I was simming it sometimes without the optional uphill or optional west bend. Leading to real-life "...oops...OH SH**....!!!"

Btw, not that I'm suggesting anything, but there are available work-arounds for the "Starforce" stuff.

I enjoy some spirited driving on GT Legends from time to time. I definitely need to DL those cars and tracks.

I like Road America since it is my "home" track, but would like to find Blackhawk Farms since it is nearby as well.

flipper-
rFactor has quite a few era's of RA. It's been awhile but on one version I was blown away when I took an excursion 'off track'. They even had most of the access roads, bridges, some brat stands..! When I get a chance, I'll look for Blackhawk. Other nearby courses - Joliet Autobahn is available. You can run the North, South or full course. Well done. One I'd like to see is the old Meadowdale. Someone was creating it for GPL but I don't believe it was ever completed.

Fun when you can run some vintage Silver Arrows MB or Auto Union, to a mid sixties roadster and slide around. Need more devoted time but can an easily turn into an addiction!

Unfortunately, I don't have rfactor. I was looking for a GT Legends version. I guess I can still practice on SCGT, but that is pretty old in the tooth graphics wise.

I loved GT legends, especially the alfa GT... But this stuff has become too hard to setup for the casual gamer with limited time ( i.e. kids). Reinstall the old game, patch it, find a starforce crack, figure out who/where/what to download for extra tracks, cars, other mods, all separate.... figure out how to install that on top of it properly... it takes a lot of research and time ;-(
I wish someone would wrap it all up nicely into one single and simple install with a bow on top, and even charge for it, I'd pay ;-) It was a cool game, I can imagine it really rocks now on faster machines.

Get it through Steam. Always up to date and will you can run it any Windows machine you have a Steam account on. $12. The cars and tracks are pretty easy.

My kids love it as well. Our 3 1/2 year old even recognizes Road America when he drives on it and sees the replay near turn 5.
