This is exactly what my wife thinks...and we take it out every date night. Why? Because it's my special car...for special things like date night. Well, unless it's raining...and then we take our other vehicle for her peace of mind.

He might still be tied up with her stockings while the roofies wear off !

Take the Porsche. Pull some of the interior pieces out, put the spare tire on it, get a few little pieces of vinyl wrap that looks like primer paint and stick it on the car take her out in it, Tell her that you got a great deal on it and it's a fixer upper. Then if it goes well, before each time she sees it "fix" part of the car and she'll think that your a handy guy and that you have skills.

Dueller 03-04-2013 04:55 PM

Back to the original poster's quesry....which car? Whichever was in the driveway and has a full tank. Neither one is gonna impress her. Sorry, but very few women are gonna be impressed one way or another with either. Now a new Bentley or Benz, maybe. But a Jap SUV or old Pcar?....nah.

But I did read somewhere that women are more inpressed that the car is clean inside and out more thanwhat it is.

YMMV

Speeder hit the nail on the head.

Around here, as in most places, the girls know exactly what a new car looks like. An 85 930 will only make them feel sorry for you. I'd take the rodeo - at least you don't look like you are trying a little too hard.

I am glad I met my wife when all I owned was a bicycle. :)

Does it really matter what she thinks?

Geez.........time to turn in your man card.

You do things because that is who YOU are - not who you want HER to perceive you as.

Get your mojo on and let the chips fall where they may.....

Or you could take the Rodeo....if that's who you are.....

OR here is a different spin. Take the 930. Dependent on her reaction, you can kind of feel her out. A) she will be the type that doesn't give a crap, which could be good or bad. B) she will and either be thrilled because it is a Porsche and a gold digger (I find most girls don't know a lot about Porsches and what is worth a lot and which aren't) and doesn't know anything about Porsches or cars in general OR be turned off because its old and because she doesn't know a lot about Porsches. Or you may hit the jackpot, C) a girl who is thrilled it is a 930 and starts asking you all about the car. The engine, what you did to the car, if you are the original owner, etc. You can tell if she was just interested in the car or if she is interested in cars in general. Then you would know you have a common passion.

tweezers74 03-04-2013 05:13 PM

Baz, I agree with you but he can use it to see how she reacts to it, not necessarily care what the outcome is. Use it as an assessment tool. :)

Joe Bob 03-04-2013 05:16 PM

I'm tired after a long bike ride and not gonna read thru the dreck.....has anyone posted the "Rodeo Date Joke"?

I'm still trying to get Tweez to let me move in and support me, so.....I can't tooo big a pig....

Jim Richards 03-04-2013 05:17 PM

Don't sell yourself short. ;)

Jim Richards 03-04-2013 05:26 PM

Yeah, short ribs.

Honest answer is that you have two really horseschit first date cars, albeit for different reasons. Head down to Enterprise and rent a new car for the night. Almost anything will do, as long as it's nice/new and non-descript. You don't want your car to make any impression one way or the other, women judge us by a lot of strange criteria that makes no sense to men.

Believe it or not, if you had a date with some "10" of any age in L.A., a new Prius is what you'd want. It's the best-selling vehicle in CA., (I schit you not), and it says all the right things. I.E., "I care about the environment/I can afford a new car/I'm not some creep driving a weird car to front something..."

Otherwise drive the Rodeo for sure. I can't imagine a worse car for a first impression than some 1980s status symbol with huge flairs and wings, etc.. Even a new 991 would not be a great car for this purpose. It says that you have a little $$ or credit but also says insecure or a wannabe playboy. It sucks but I've found out through direct recon that a Porsche is a big turn-off for most women.

I have to agree with my man Speeder. Porsche is probably the absolute last car I would ever take on a first date. It might actually be embarrassing.....

I'm sorry but a woman caring about cars is the absolute last thing that would matter on my list. It's so hard to find perfect compatibility and mutual attraction in this crazy world, her sharing my weird hobbies/obsessions would be a non-issue. Most great relationships I've seen have a certain amount of autonomy in them, i.e. each person has their own life as well as their life together and I would expect my car hobby to be in the "own life" category. I haven't met many truly interesting women who give a shake about cars. There are exceptions to everything, of course, (including you perhaps), :), but I could care less about it.

I'd be much more concerned with making the wrong impression on some total catch of a chick. It is unfortunate that most people do not see a Porsche driver as some interesting, adventurous motor racing fan. They see him as tool who is looking for attention. I own them in spite of the image. It's not a good image.

I would just drive whichever I feel like at the momment walking into he garage, without thinking about the girl.

Baz 03-05-2013 03:52 AM

Most Porsche owners are dicks.......I agree.

Doesn't mean you change who YOU are.

Drive 'em!
