My Uncles 1968 Corvette

My uncle Chris came home from Vietnam in 1968. He'd been injured, and seen some horrible stuff. Decided to treat himself to something special.

He went down to the local Chevy dealer and ordered a Corvette. I don't know all the specs, but it has a 454, 4 speed. He drove the hell out of it for many years.

He still has the car. Original paint. Near perfect condition. I remember drooling over it when I was a kid.

very nice car. Although, I'm pretty sure it's got a 427 if it's a 1968.

there is a fair bit that's not factory there so it could have any engine in it.

Nice looking car, but as mentioned 68 was the first year of this model of car (3rd generation) It came with a 327 or a 427. 454's didn't start till 1970

I really like the first couple off years of this body style. The chrome bumperettes and the concave rear are cool.

I am 45 minutes from Jainsville. I actually sold all my porsches to do my 67 camaro not sure why yet but have enjoyed the project

Not much is orginaly on a bunch of these old chevy's they fell into to many of the wrong hands or people went for simple cubic inch increases.

looks like a nice car of your uncles

I stand corrected. I contacted my uncle via Facebook. Its the original 427. He said it made 390hp from the factory.

Aside from being original, I'm thinking the 427 would be more desirable than a 454, anyway. In 1974 I had a 1971 Camaro with a 350 2V 4-spd. I guy I knew in high school offered to trade his yellow 1968 Corvette with a 427 and 3 two-barrels for my Camaro. I didn't know how I'd insure it, but I accepted his offer. He didn't go through with it.

A few too many mods on that car, but nothing that can't be undone. A 390 horse 427 was a single carb engine from the factory. Not as desirable as the 3x2 but this engine made an absolute boat load of torque. Something like 450 or 460 pounds of torque in the 3-4 grand range.

Any 427 numbers matching 4 speed is a desirable car. This one, in black is just freakin' cool!

Nice Vette. I will have to keep an eye out for it seeing as I am only 15 minutes away and frequently travel to Janseville to shop.

What's not factory besides the wheels and sidepipes?

The shifter and upholstey, just from a glance. The hood is an L88 and the bbq rack is not like other C3s(could be right, '68s an oddball year).

If your close to him, doesn't matter that its not stock.

I own my grandfathers's spoon. Its just a old bolt action spoon. I value it more than any other spoon I own, or am likely to own.

I love stories like this. Doesn't matter if it's not stock, he's had the same car since '68 and he's still driving it. Wow. I guess he must like it. :-)
Thought I was doing well for having my 356s since 1973.

yup. Good story. Nice car. Not stock=so what unless you're into quoting part numbers and specs from memory...and then nobody wants to be around most of those guys anyway.

Super cool car, great story. Not stock? Yep. Doesn't effect it's coolness one bit to me
