Dear 'Dreams shattered'.....

It seems that HIDEOUS racist post from earlier today has disappeared. Good riddance.

To the author, I offer you this.

Today I was getting ready to do some work, and I noticed a lady standing outside of our neighbors home across the street. She was Mexican/South American. She kept talking on the phone and looking around. I recognized the car, and I was pretty sure it was their cleaning lady. After a bit, it became clear she had locked her keys in the car.

It was sunny, but also quite cold here today. I could see that she was cold, rubbing her arms and trying to stay warm. So when I went out to do my work, I grabbed an extra fleece jacket, and went across the street and asked her if she was locked out of her car. In broken english, she said yes, and explained she was waiting for her husband to bring her keys. So I offered her the jacket, and she was very happy and thankful. Her husband showed up about 15 minutes later, and she brought me the coat, and thanked me again.

I didn't asked for her green card. I didn't care what language she spoke. She was a cold human being, who simply needed a coat.

We're all in this together my friend.

Cheers, Josh

Well done Josh and I agree... I'm tired of racism in general on this planet!

What country(ies) would you consider less racist than the US and how would you measure it? Not looking for an argument, just information and your opinion.

I would consider the US very, very tolerant. My wife is from India. I don't think Americans could quite get their heads around the kind of racism and ethnic strife that goes on there.

I have traveled the country and I have traveled the world. And I agree 100% with the assessment.

Which countries do you have in mind?

I have a few, but it is a fairly short list.

France, Cuba, the entirety of Scandinavia and Brazil jump to mind immediately. I'm not claiming that the USA is the most racist place on earth but to say that it's the least is a banal statement.

In places like Cuba and Brazil, there are basically no color lines. People from pale white to black as coal are all considered the same ethnicity/nationality.

race riots are so common in france they don't even make the news anymore.

cuba is a dictatorship.

there weren't any minorities in scandinavia until recently. their problems are just starting.

Ever been to Cuba or Scandinavia, or lived in Paris? Didn't think so. And the riots I assume you are referring to in France are not "race riots" but France definitely has its serious problems.

None of the places I cite are utopias, (at least not anymore), but they are all far less racist than the USA. And racism varies greatly depending on where in the USA you are. I do not consider it bad at all where I live and I think it's getting better everywhere...just my impression.

too much hate and fear in the world, thanks for making it a little nicer place with your perspective and your coat.

Problem is...

Race in Brazil: Affirming a divide | The Economist

Racism in Brazil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Racism in Cuba

I don't mean to be a dick about this, but name a country and I'll find elements of racism, often institutionalized racism.

Interesting topic.

I've travelled the world, and the country, extensively. Racism is definitely alive and well here in the Good Ol' U.S of A., especially in certain areas of the country. The South is still TERRIBLE in many locations. Having said that, I'd still say the U.S. is one of the more tolerant places I've had the pleasure of travelling/living in. The Arab world is rife with racism, and don't even get started on secular divides...Asia is quite racist, Europe...didn't seem TOO bad to me, but there were issues. Mexico/South America in general is very racist.

It's everywhere, folks. I've personally never understood racism, but it's definitely out there. My feelings are race is pretty much just species adaptation related to where your ancestors are from in the world. How someone can hate another based on that baffles me.

Let's say speeder is correct and the US is a racist nation to its very core. Just for discussion purposes, what do you suppose the reasons for the racism are?

I say it, the alleged racism, is fostered, sustained and perpetrated by governement policies steeped in racism, by racists whose fortunes are dependent on racism and by blindingly guilt-ridden do-gooders whose self-esteem is so shallow that they must, simply must, pin their personal angst and worthlessness on some historical trespass.
