Tsunami Pictures Before and After

Some of the best I've seen. Amazing that they have done so much in one year.

Thank you for that link. Impressive. It's a society that knows how to focus.

Proud, strong, hard-working people. Much to admire in their spirit.

As opposed to sitting in fema trainers for years insisting the gubmint needs to give em more stuff.

Thanks for the posting. Ironically, my wife has been watching hours of YT vids of the tsunami. A little too much for me watching at length but while seeing tragedy, it is oddly fascinating. Its also been the most photographed, video event of all time.

No disrespect to those who suffered through the last hurricanes on the East coast but it PALES in comparison to Japan.

Great and industrious people. But so sad that they are so rapidly slowing their birth rate. My BIL has lived there for 8 years, and he says the very few who actually do have a child so spoil it that just in the amount of time he's been there he's seen a change. They have an upside down family tree, with two parents and four grand parents doting over one child.

daepp- Interesting comment.
On one of the Japanese vid's, an elder woman remarked how the majority of the young adults left many of the ruined towns. This in reverse to what we see or read and in many areas the desire to rebuild health clinics, schools, etc. just won't happen. Overwhelming and I guess the youth feel its best to start elsewhere.

Well, you can pick at our government (and the usual suspects always do) but I doubt the NRC would have allowed the Fukushima plant to be built as it was, and that's the core long term problem in the area and a reason for quickly clearing the debris -- a whole lot of stuff is radioactive.

Young people leaving the area? Well, if you can get good info on local radiation levels and half life, you would think that wise.

While much of the world breeds as a sport.

The Japanese have a facility similar to where I work (called JPARC (Japanese Proton Accelerator Research Complex). It is right on the coast and sustained quite a bit of damage from the earthquake. We collaborate with them quite a bit. They kept us up to date on their repair progress and it was astounding. I thought it might never operate again and they were operational in less than a year. Amazing.

The Japanese ability to rebuild so quickly no doubt stems from all that practice the got from the Godzilla attacks.
