Aging dysfunctions...

These are mine. Look at my name to see how many yo I am...
They are as follows:

- Have to watch fat/cholesterol ingestion. No pills required if I watch this.
-Alcohol intake -can't take more than one a drink a day otherwise I feel crappy. Genetic disposition on my father's side.
-Can walk/hike no problem. Running hurts knees except on fresh snow.
- Growing intolerance for young fashion.
- Not a lot of patience. Have a slow fuse though.
- Hardly drink coffee but prefer tea but that is more of a taste thing.
- Can't pee that well - enlarged prostate.
- No tolerance for liars, crooks, aggressive people or folks with a sense of entitlement.

How about you?

BlueSkyJaunte 03-11-2013 08:26 AM

I have all of these except #1 and #2, and I'm not even 40 yet!

Zeke 03-11-2013 08:40 AM

Are you a curmudgeon?

Oh definitely. :):)

pwd72s 03-11-2013 09:21 AM

welcome aboard...also add low tolerance for folks who constantly brag about their "stuff". This because you've learned that the more "stuff" you have, the more stuff there is to take care of and that's become a PITA.

Crowbob 03-11-2013 09:31 AM

Look at the bright side. Not everything gets harder as you get older.

pwd72s 03-11-2013 09:37 AM

^^^groan...

Chocaholic 03-11-2013 09:41 AM

Add to it....

ringing in ears
can't squat for more than a few minutes when working on car
come in the house sore from head to toe after working on car/gardening, etc.
water pressure isn't what it once was
...and shy bladder. Someone nearby, no flow.

targa911S 03-11-2013 09:46 AM

The only time I don't feel like I have to pee is when I'm peeing.
My knees are good, my hips suck, climbing stairs hurts.
I'm actually more tolerant of stupidity knowing that it will catch up with them someday.
I'm better with my money, because I have what I want and don't want much more.
Hot & spicey foods are a killer.
4 hour gigs are a killer.
Decided sex is more trouble than it's worth.
Zocor at dinner, aspirin before bedtime. Doctors orders.

madmmac 03-11-2013 10:03 AM

I think I have some, but I can't remember.

Rikao4 03-11-2013 10:08 AM

is this a shopping list of what to expect
or the checkout line..

healthy..
no meds..
my 'old' lady competed in 3 Karate matches this weekend..
if I slow down..she would just step over my body..

craigster59 03-11-2013 10:11 AM

When I was younger I had to place my dck under the fence rail so I wouldn't piss in my face, now at my age I have to place it over the fence rail so I don't piss on my shoes. (Told to me by an 87 y.o. man many years ago).

LakeCleElum 03-11-2013 10:19 AM

Lose stuff all the time. I don't get excited anymore, I know someday, I'll stumble onto it.......Almost to the point of taking notes when I leave things like keys, camera, phone, flashlight......

Once I was talking to my wife on the cell and she said I seemed distracted....I told her I was multi-tasking and looking for my cell phone while talking to her.....True story....

Jferr006 03-11-2013 10:23 AM

and here I thought only chicks shared way too much info.

As I near 30 I'm becoming blind as a bat and my memory is gone...at this rate I haven't got much time left. i lost my car keys a week ago and still haven't found them. I have to go through a mental checklist to make sure I didn't forget importasnt things, like a kid, when I go out.
I'm gunna blame it on the liberal media...

jyl 03-11-2013 10:25 AM

Ha ha.

My list:
- Have to keep my weight down and exercise up, or I go back on lipid and BP meds.
- Hair thinning and graying, despite best efforts.
- Lacking flexibility, but I think this is reversible and I'm going to work on it this year
- Pee more often and it takes longer, but after a couple weeks of holding a stopwatch as I pee'd, I've decided it is silly to be bothered by this - I mean, at least I'm not a woman
- shamefully drawn to skinny jeans, man card revocation threatened
- About to start the annual rectal probes

That's about it so far. In general, I feel better (physically, mentally) than I did ten years ago. But the hair thing bugs me . . .

Mark Henry 03-11-2013 10:29 AM

I used to be sore as heck all the time and was getting a tad over weight. I took up Karate, which I did into my 20's but it had been 25+years, humbling starting as a white belt all over.

Now I'm still sore all the time, but I have better flexibly, strength, endurance and my weight is under control, plus I feel great.

I got that too - I thought I was the only one in N. Amer. that had that . Good to know!

R K T 03-11-2013 10:35 AM

Ringing in ears.....from all the concerts in the 60s & 70s

Feet completely worn out.....from working, walking and standing on concrete all my life

Short term memory.....from smoking something?

Allergic to bullsiht......from everything

Takes two hours to recover from two hours of doing something

And oh yeah.....short term memory loss!!

recycled sixtie 03-11-2013 10:36 AM

[QUOTE=Jferr006;7322219]and here I thought only chicks shared way too much info.

As I near 30 I'm becoming blind

My 24 yo daughter has poor eyesight and wants to go for lasik surgery(I am trying to talk her out of that).
Sorry no pics of me or the daughter.
Enjoy the day before it gets too old:):)

Jferr006 03-11-2013 10:42 AM

I haven't been to an eye doctor since before I started college. 10 years of staring at computers screen later..I'm having trouble seeing while I'm driving. I should really get on that.

vash 03-11-2013 10:42 AM

i am starting to feel a slow burning anger when i see kids on my lawn...

strange.

Evans, Marv 03-11-2013 10:45 AM

Tell me about it, but I consider myself luckier than lots.

- Have to watch fat/cholesterol ingestion. No pills required if I watch this.
(Have to take statins. I think they affect my memory somewhat.)
-Alcohol intake -can't take more than one a drink a day otherwise I feel crappy. Genetic disposition on my father's side. (Not interested in drinking much anymore. I do have a little wine, scotch, bourbon once in a while, but if I get even a little buzz I notice it the next morning.)
-Can walk/hike no problem. Running hurts knees except on fresh snow.
(hiking/walking no problem. But my knees are worn out so I haven't been able to run since early 40s.)
- Growing intolerance for young fashion.
(Ditto, plus I generally have no interest in any kind of fashion at all.)
- Not a lot of patience. Have a slow fuse though.
(Not as patient, but have a decent amount of age related tollerance.)
- Hardly drink coffee but prefer tea but that is more of a taste thing.
(Never was a coffee drinker, but do dring a mug in the morning for something hot to drink.)
- Can't pee that well - enlarged prostate.
(Sofar no problem here.)
- No tolerance for liars, crooks, aggressive people or folks with a sense of entitlement.
(Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto.)

If I put in a day of good physical work, I can feel it in the evening. I put in a day of brush & scrub oak cutting on the slope above my house yesterday & slept well last night. Unfortunately the process of cutting, dragging, shredding/burning & cleaning up will be several days to finish. I tell myself the exercise if good.

RWebb 03-11-2013 10:54 AM

as I age, I find I have less tolerance for... old people

Iciclehead 03-11-2013 11:18 AM

Now it takes me all night to do what I used to do all night...

....so I have lost interest in the subject area....

D.

Just shave your head. Soon as my hair started to show signs of thinning, I told nature to F**k off and went from paying a barber to take care of my head to paying Gillette to keep it smooth. You'd be surprised how many chics dig a dude with a chrome dome...

tharbert 03-11-2013 11:29 AM

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my nearsightedness the most. I have perfect eyesight for anything just a little beyond my outstretched fingers. My birthday is tomorrow. As long as I keep having them, I'll be ok...

genrex 03-11-2013 11:45 AM

Happy Birthday tomorrow! :)

And 1000 posts! Rookie... ;)

Don't tell me that this is turning into a nursing home BBS. I knew that we're an older demographic, just not that old...

R K T 03-11-2013 12:08 PM

I look at some "old" people and realize they are younger than me....

Me too...a pair of nice redwings with vibram sole & kangaroo leather uppers. Just can't bear to toss them eventho they no longer fit. I went from a 12 to a 13 some years back...feet got old & spread out. :(

KevinTodd 03-11-2013 02:16 PM

Great list. I'm about 9 years behind you but have gone ass over teakettle for a healthier lifestyle as my mortality becomes more evident.

Curmudgeon? maybe.

Older, wiser, and usually right? maybe

Highly opinionated and resilient to disagreement? definitely!

flatbutt 03-11-2013 02:25 PM

Urination takes longer than sex....seriously

oh and turning 50 and thinking you look good in skinny jeans.....

strupgolf 03-11-2013 02:26 PM

I can walk 5 miles without problems. I smoke cigars. I take medicine for HBP. I drink beer often, and a nice Jack at times, I can walk 18 holes carrying a bag of clubs on a hilly course in 90 degree weather, work on my Porsche, mow the grass, mulch the lawn, and whatever there else there is. But if I know things, I'll pass away in the nest 5 years.

ckelly78z 03-11-2013 02:29 PM

I've had kind of a rough life health wise. I joke that I am completely out of my nine lives and can't afford another big issue. Here is my nine lives (what I should have died from) laid out for you;
-1) Senior year of high school following some buddies at night and was hit by a freight train. I looked down the tracks but only saw black. The 45 MPH train was so close, I was looking at it's front hitch and couldn't see the high mounted light.
-2) 23 years old got stage 3 hodgkins lymphoma and had 6 months of 5 days a week radiation treatments.
-3) 28 y/o had a reoccurance of hodgkins and had 4 months of weekly chemotherapy
-4) 30 y/o developed a blood clot in upper chest about 2 inches from lung
-5) 38 y/o one of the chemotherapy drugs I had 10 years earlier caused congestive heart failure. The first day in the hospital, I lost 15 lbs of fluid from my chest and abdomen (picture 2 gallon milk containers on a 170 lb guy) and my heart was beating at 13% efficiency.
-6) 41 y/o another bought with CHF not as bad this time
-7) 46 y/o another round of chemotherapy for what appears like an early detection of hodgkins for the third time.
-8) 47 y/o Guy ran a stop sign and creamed me and my 83 Porsche 944. Ended up with shattered pelvis (10 breaks), 4 broken ribs, cracked sternum, broken foot, and lacerated liver.
I got 5 months at home for this one, had to learn to walk again on the reconstructed hip with a plate, pins and screws in place, and have been back to work now for 2 months.
-9) 47 y/o For sitting around inactive after surgury, I got numerous blood clots in both legs and abdomen.

I'm ready for crap to start happening to someone else, and my getting old has me concerned on several fronts. To look at me and to talk to me, you would never know any of this stuff has happened, i'm thin, somewhat in shape, and barely look 40.....no grey hair or nasty limp.

I believe my wife and I will have to move somewhere in the SW of the country or go to Arizona for the Winter to get away from the cold wet Winters of NW Ohio. I will gladly trade any of you for your aches and pains, but you have to take everything I have to trade to be fair.

jyl 03-11-2013 03:53 PM

1. Some heads look great bald, and then there's mine. Says the only woman whose opinion matters.

2. Anyone in the thread who is 30 y/o - had best be serving drinks, dancing, or fetching my walker.

RWebb 03-11-2013 03:59 PM

tight pants can interfere with various life functions - walking, sex, etc.

Meh, I have a car that has me beat by a year ;)
I realize I'm not old in the grand scheme of things but, 28 sure as hell isn't 18... Stuff is starting to break out of warranty.

jyl 03-11-2013 04:29 PM

28!!!!!

Outrage!

Fetch me a warm milk, dammit.
