Portlanders - Restaurants in Tigard, etc.
I know a lot of PDX people are on here so I am asking for restaurant recomendations in the SW metro area.
A friend is coming in from Idaho and we'll be in Tigard but may not fight thru traffic to get to downtown PDX. ideas for Tigard, Sherwood, Wilsonville? |

What do you and your friend like to eat?
I'll avoid listing the chains and try to stay close to I5: Sherwood: Mimo's Italian - very small, 5 tables, limited menu changes daily, but very good House of Good Fortune - Chinese Tualatin: Fiorano Ristorante - small Italian place run by a nice guy from the Philipines with a love of F1 racing Hayden's - upscale American dinner fare Claim Jumper - OK, I'll list one chain. Tigard: John Barleycorn's - In my opinion, the nicest of the McMenamin's restaurants Gustav's - German restaurant up by Washington Square Lake Oswego/Tigard: Stanford's - Nice steak and meat selections Let me know if you need directions or more info. |

In Lake Oswego - just across I-5.
Gubancs. Great. Low key. Good food. Good bar. Don't know if I can explain it but it is a favorite. Couple of Thai places that are good. Really nice Costa Rican shack on Boones Ferry. Forget the name. It is red and about a block past Reese. Don't eat from chains. Yuck. Good luck. Portland is a food town. LOTS of great options. Go into town and experience it. Larry |

In Beaverton,
Banning's Restaurant & Pie House, old school but with a few modern dishes thrown in. Banning's Restaurant & Pie House Tiggard, Cafe Allegro, French/Italian served in an converted house. Cafe Allegro Tigard Sherwood, I would be remiss if I didn't mention my friends brewery, excellent beer (I am biased) Not much for food but great burgers, they don't have a kitchen but hired a guy who pulled up his airstream in the back and he cooks the burgers out there. Chehalem Valley Brewing Company Chehalem Valley Brewing Company | Handcrafted Ales in Newberg, Oregon Also in Sherwood, Crazy sushi, Crazy Sushi | Sherwood, Portland, Oregon - The best sushi bar in town! Across from crazy sushi, Rose's Restaurant & Bakery (famous Rubin and great deserts) Rose's Restaurant

Not to be a D*ck but there are some BAD recommendations above. I won't eat in most of the places above. Truth.
If you want to eat well, you are probably going to have to go to P-town. If you stay in the burbs, eat local - no chains. Report back. Excellent local beer as well. Larry |

I was in Portland last summer. Ate at a steak house downtown that was excellent but I can't recall the name. It was very close to a crazy, crazy donut shop called, I kid you not, "Voodoo Donut". The line to get in the place was clear round the block. I think Wilsonville is where La Quinta is? I stopped there the next night, and ate at another excellent seafood place.. Sorry can't recall that one either, but if I see the names, I'll remember them.
Edit: well I'll be damned, I found it on Google Maps. Prime Bar. I ordered an excellent seafood appetizer and had a few excellent beers with dinner. Last edited by rusnak; 03-15-2013 at 05:21 PM.. |

I've not eaten in any of the others mentioned, I don't get to the West side to eat out much. Voodoo donuts is VASTLY overrated. Vastly. Did I say vastly? In Portland, try "Lucca" on Fremont, (stay away from Perry's across the street). "The Ringside" on Burnside is an institution, it's decent, but Ruth's Chris has better food.. There's a little place in the Park Blocks called "Park Kitchen" - My new favorite restaurant. And there are food carts all around the city. Fast food, but some of it is really good, and super healthy. Breakfast at the Heathman, just to say you did it. Nothing fantastic, but good. If you have time, look me up, I'm from Idaho, maybe I know your friend.
